VVSD Class of 2024 Spotlight- Noah Pulins, Romeoville HS Valedictorian
Romeoville HS Class of 2024 Valedictorian Noah Pulins is the first VVSD valedictorian to have started his educational journey in the VVSD Early Childhood Program.
Noah began our conversation by sharing, even though it was a long time ago, what he remembers about the VVSD EC Program and how it set the building blocks for his journey as a learner.
VVSD Class of 2024 Spotlight- Javier Julio, Bolingbrook HS Salutatorian
For the second time in the last three years, a member of the Julio family is the Salutatorian of the Bolingbrook HS Graduation Class. Javier Julio is the BHS Class of 2024 Salutatorian, and this honor puts an exclamation point on a senior year with some difficult personal challenges. Javier had dreams of playing pro soccer until he suffered a torn hamstring playing for the Chicago Fire Premier in the United Premier Soccer pro development league.
Javier will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall and study finance in a pre-law track. Our conversation began with Javier thanking one of his teachers from this year for emotional as well as educational support in the aftermath of the injury.
VVSD Summer Library Program
Please join us this June and July for VVSD’s annual Summer Library Events, open to all VVSD students, regardless of the building they attend. These events offer an array of engaging activities and opportunities. Students will be able to check out library books, participate in STEM activities, join insightful book talks, and much more! Bolingbrook HS Highlighted in Give Something Back Workplace Initiative Video
A February visit by the Give Something Back Workplace Readiness Initiative to Bolingbrook HS is now a video being shared worldwide giving an in-depth look at the program designed to equip high school students with essential skills for success in the professional world.
From understanding employer expectations to conducting oneself professionally, students gain valuable insights and real-life examples from professionals across various fields.
This initiative prepares students for job shadows, internships, and career conversations, fostering a proactive and adaptable approach to future opportunities.
VVSD Job Fair, Tue. July 16 9:30 am- 2:30 pm at Fountaindale Library, Bolingbrook
Valley View School Community Unit School District 365U will be hosting a Job Fair on Tuesday, July 16 from 9:30 am- 2:30 pm at the Fountaindale Public Library, 300 W. Briarcliff Rd. in Bolingbrook. Immediate interviews will be offered at the Job Fair and some hiring decisions will be made on-the-spot for those who qualify.
Those attending the Job Fair should dress professionally and make certain to bring their valid driver’s license and Social Security card.
VVSD is currently making immediate hiring decisions for a variety of part-time and full-time positions for the 2024-25 school year. Current available job categories include Lunchroom Aides, Lunchroom & Playground Aides, Nutrition Services staff, Paraprofessionals, Security personnel, Substitute Teachers, and Transportation Services.
VVSD offers a competitive pay scale for all jobs, and a range of benefits depending on the position. The hours for most of the positions being presented at this job fair are within the regular school day, which makes the work hours conducive for applicants who have school age dependents.

Returning Students Can Register Now for the 2024-25 School Year
Registration for our VVSD returning students for the new school year that begins in August is available at www.vvsd.org Please note that registration fees are not due until July, so you can register beginning on May 3 and pay any fees later. VVSD Kindergarten Enrollment for the Class of 2037 Continues
VVSD Kindergarten registration for the Class of 2037 continues through the online enrollment process. To be eligible to register, a student must be five years old on or before Sept 1, 2024, and the family must live with VVSD boundaries. Families of current VVSD students will be able to register via their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account, while families new to the District will be able to register online.
VVSD Now Hiring for 2024-25 School Year
VVSD is hiring for a wide range of positions for the 2024-25 school year.We are seeking new team members including teachers, guest teachers, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, operations & maintenance, nutrition services, lunchroom & playground aides, and special education staff.
VVSD’s employment opportunities offer schedules for staff members that are in synchronization with school schedules, making VVSD a great choice for parents who need to have their work schedule match up with the school hours, and Winter and Spring Break for their children. Notice Regarding Paid Transportation for the 2024-25 School Year
The application period for paid student transportation for the 2024-25 school year will open Mon. July 1 and will close Wed. July 31. Seating is limited on a first come, first served basis and paid transportation students may be removed from routes due to changes in capacity limits. Paid student transportation application window will close for the month of August for the 2024-25 school year, and will re-open on Tue. Sept. 3, pending availability.
Upon notification of acceptance for paid student transportation Visa, MasterCard or Discover card payments for the full year or the first semester can be accepted over the phone at 815-886-6686 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Paid student transportation rates are as follows:
One student- $575 full year ($287.50 per semester - 2nd semester payment due no later than December 15, 2024.
Two or more students $1150 in full ($575 per semester - 2nd semester payment due no later than December 15, 2024.
Pro-rated Paid Transportation will not be available.
VVSD Nutrition Services Shares Information Regarding USDA SUN Bucks Summer Program
SUN Bucks is a new permanent nutrition program authorized by the United States Department of Agriculture to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. SUN Bucks 2024 will provide a $120 annual benefit to eligible children, via an Electronic Benefit Transfer issuance by the Illinois Department of Human Services later this summer. More basic information on the new federal program is available on the USDA website at www.fns.usda.gov/sebt/household Illinois is one of 36 states that have announced their intent to launch Summer EBT in summer 2024.
Households should visit the DHS website www.dhs.state.il.us/ for information about Illinois Summer EBT. IDHS will be setting up a SUMMER EBT May 2024 customer help line at (833) 621-0737 to assist families. The agency will be able to assist with such things as the card distribution timeline, usage, allowable expenses, and lost or misplaced cards.

Noteworthy Achievements
Bolingbrook HS 12th grade student Terence Jackson, Jr. placed sixth in the IHSA Class 3A Boys Track & Field Championships 400-Meter Dash Final on Sat. May 25 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. By earning points in the event, Terence earned All-State status. Jackson and teammates Hussein Almousawi, Edmond Ankomah, and Vincent DeFarno teamed up for sixth place in the 4x400 Meter Relay. Almousawi and DeFarno, along with Joshua Stewart and Jason Vervack placed fourth in the 4x400 Meter Relay.
VVSD Health Services Lisell Zuniga, BSN, RN, PEL-CSN is the Illinois Association of School Nurses Administrator of the Year. This award recognizes school nurses and school nurse administrators who demonstrate excellence in school nursing practice. Lisell will be recognized at the National Association of School Nurses’ annual conference, June 28-July 1, 2024, in Chicago.
Independence Elementary School Special Education Teacher Andrea Novak is the recipient of the National Association of Special Education Teachers 2024 Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award. The award recognizes the dedication, loyalty, perseverance, and enthusiasm given to students by Andrea at Independence.
Seen Around Valley View-
Summer is the time for upgrades to our facilities around VVSD. The bigger jobs require some outside help such as the replacement of the gymnasium floor at Romeoville HS.
Our Facilities and Operations team is tackling several other projects, including extending the secure entry system at Hermansen Elementary School.
Quick Notes
The next regular meeting of the Valley View Board of Education will be held Monday, July 15 at John J. Lukancic Middle School, 725 W. Normantown Rd., Romeoville IL. This meeting will begin at 6:30 pm, at which time the Board will vote to move to Closed Executive Session. The Public Session of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Community Connections
Office of State Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel
Illinois State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel is teaming up with the Fountaindale Library and the White Oak Library District to offer a Summer Book Club in cooperation with the State of Illinois. To participate, students are asked to read eight books through the summer and send in the form which can be downloaded here from Sen. Cappel’s website.. Senator Cappel hosts an ice-cream party for all students who complete the program. The form needs to be completed and submitted by Thu. Aug. 16.
Bolingbrook Park District

Fountaindale Public Library

Romeoville Community Pantry
The Romeoville Community Pantry is a community service organization operated by volunteers in the Romeoville community. The Pantry serves anyone who lives in Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Lockport, Plainfield, Lemont, and Crest Hill. The pantry is open every Saturday 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Clients are asked to provide a current photo ID and proof of residence in order to participate in our services. The location is inside the United Presbyterian Church located at 2 Belmont Drive in Romeoville. Northern Illinois Food Bank
The Northern Illinois Food Bank is conducting mobile food banks and micro pantries in the vicinity in the near future. Please bring bags or boxes. Micro Pantries are designed to allow anonymous food pick-up for those in need and a drop-off point for those who wish to help. Micro pantries are accessible 24 hours a day.
