Students concluded their fall MAP assessments for math, ELA, and science classes this week. These assessments measure students’ understanding and growth over time, providing valuable data that helps our teachers better support each student’s learning needs. Your student's MAP report will be sent home with their report card at the close of the first quarter.
School Fees
As we begin the 2024-25 school year, please remember to check if your child has any outstanding fees from previous school years. Balances can be viewed by logging in to PowerSchool or PaySchools, or by calling our main office at (440.748.2122). Full or partial payments can be made through the MMS main office during school hours or online through PaySchools (processing fees apply). Action must be taken in order for your child to participate in activities, such as our upcoming fall dance (more info the come) and field trips/camps.
Lost and Found
Is your student missing an article of clothing, lunch box, water bottle, or school supplies? Remind them to check the lost and found. Four bins are placed on the stage in the cafeteria and have already collected a wide array of notebooks, pencil pouches, water bottles, and articles of clothing.Featured Stories
Lab Safety, Layers of the Earth, and The Earth's Spheres, OH MY!
The 7th and 8th graders are off to a great start in science this year! We kicked off the year with a little refresher on Lab safety, tools in science, as well as Controlled Experiments! Our students were able to design a controlled experiment around several questions that were posed to them. One of them was “How does paper density affect the rate at which a paper helicopter will fall?”. Kids had a lot of fun not only making the helicopters, but designing the experiment from start to finish.
After the first few weeks, the 8th graders began to learn about the different layers of the Earth and how the temperature, density, pressure and composition are all different with each layer. Students were then able to apply their knowledge and create a narrative of their journey to the center of the Earth! The stories they wrote were AWESOME to read!
The 7th graders started learning about ecosystems and the biotic, abiotic factors found in them. They looked at limiting factors and the carrying capacity that one ecosystem can hold. We are now applying what they learned so far with ecosystems to the 4 spheres of the Earth (geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere). Every part of an ecosystem plays a role in one of the 4 main spheres. Students were able to draw a beautiful landscape of the different factors, then color code it linking each factor to a sphere. It’s nice to see that they are able to extend their thinking through different mediums in science. Below you'll find a beautiful representation from 7th grader Jolee Scott.
Dynamic Pathway Students Are Working Hard to Find Their Way
This year Midview Schools is incorporating a new platform (Find Your Grind) in the Dynamic Pathways classes. This platform is geared specifically for middle school students to learn more about themselves and help them to choose a pathway/career that fits them best. As you can see in the chart below many students In Dynamic Pathways I are working hard trying to find their way. From exploring mentors, to exploring career specifics, they are on their way to being “future ready.” Ask your student to sign into Find Your Grind so they can show you more about their particular careers they have been looking into. Check out the Platform here and check out some of our stats below.
PBIS Corner
On Wednesday during Flex, students were able to exchange Kickboard points for prizes or experiences for the first time this school year. Students are able to cash in many things including the coveted pajama pass! Next week we'll announce our Students of the Month for September. Be on the lookout for their names and a photo of the group in our next update.
Staff Spotlights
Mrs. Ashley Bramley, 7th Grade ELA Teacher
Reason(s) I chose to pursue my position at Midview Local Schools: I am a 2008 Midview graduate and “Once a Middie, Always a Middie”.
A few of my favorite things include: Coffee, school supplies, reading, and spending time with my son
What is most important to me in my role: That my students feel safe and respected in our classroom and are inspired to be life-long learners.
Mr. Robert Bowles, 7th Grade ELA Teacher
Years in the district: 6 years
Reason(s) I chose to pursue my position at Midview Local Schools: I was heavily inspired by a professor I had for a writing course while in college. Despite teaching with a terminal illness, he managed to show up each and every day with positivity and a smile on his face. It that mindset and affect that I strive to carry with me each day in honor of everything he gave to us as his students.
Some of my hobbies/interests outside of my career: Spending time with my family, watching Cleveland sports ,and discovering new bands. I also enjoy cooking/baking new recipes for family and friends to enjoy.
I am not a big fan of: That team up North.
Working at Midview Local Schools has taught ME: Although we all come form drastically different backgrounds, we can all come together with a common goal of leaving the world a better place than how we found it.
