DEN INFORMATION -ACTION REQUIRED
On Wednesday, we will be having our second den of the year. Every month, we've aligned the den activity to parallel or align with our value of the month. This month is UNDERSTANDING OCTOBER. We are asking each of our students to bring in something small that makes them unique that they can share with their den. If it is something big, it can be a picture. It leaves the door wide open, but students can share something about their family, a tradition, a disability, a talent, or anything that just makes them special and who they are. This weekend would be a great time to help them and have a nice conversation about celebrating and recognizing differences...hence, UNDERSTANDING OCTOBER. We did similar activity last year and it was an awesome way for students to celebrate themselves and others.

Hispanic Heritage Month
Dear Parents of 2nd-5th graders,
¡Hola! In Spanish class, we are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept.15th- Oct. 15th) by honoring all the Hispanic cultures in our 2nd through 5th grade classes! I’m requesting that families from Hispanic backgrounds send an item to school from their culture. Your child/children will share the item with their Spanish class and display it on a table in Spanish class. It could be something simple like a computer-printed photograph, a memento from your country, a toy, currency, a flag, a piece of traditional clothing/textile, or anything that is not food-related.
*If your family is not Hispanic and you have traveled to a Spanish-speaking country, you are welcome to share anything from your trip as well.
Since Hispanic Heritage Month ends Tuesday, October 15th, I’m requesting for all items to be brought into Spanish class the week of October 7th-10th. I will have the students share their items with their class the following week of October 15th-18th.
(I will send items back home the following week of October 21st- 25th.)
To get our table started, I will bring in items from my own family’s culture from Honduras and Colombia! Please understand that this is simply a request and not a requirement. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at cletizia@d64.org.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance. I look forward to seeing the different items! 🙂
Sinceramente,
Señora Claudia Letizia
Important Health Deadline for Students in Kindergarten and those new to D64
The state deadline for submitting proof of vaccination, physical exams, and eye exams is quickly approaching on Tuesday, October 15th. Due to the holiday on October 14th, health forms must be uploaded to Powerschool by 3 pm on Friday, October 11th. The building nurses have sent numerous communications home to those who are currently missing required information or forms.
- Proof of vaccination and a physical exam dated after 8/14/23 is required.
- Please make sure you’ve answered all questions in the parent health history section, signed, and dated it before uploading. Forms are incomplete without this done.
- Students in kindergarten or attending an Illinois school for the first time are required to submit an eye exam from an optometrist/ophthalmologist.
Please review your child’s Forms/Health Office Document Submission section of Powerschool to ensure you’ve uploaded everything needed. If you have not submitted all required forms, please submit your forms ASAP so they can be reviewed by the school nurse and corrected if missing required information before the deadline to prevent exclusion from school. Instructions on uploading forms can be found on the health services website: https://www.d64.org/health-services/
Students not compliant with vaccine/physical exam requirements will be excluded from school beginning October 15th.
