Thank you to all the family members for sending your child to school on-time, ready to learn and in uniform as we returned from Thanksgiving Break. Can you believe it's already December? For the next three weeks, we will engage in important instruction with mid-year assessments. Attendance and positive attitudes will be key for students this month.

You're Invited to our next Powell Parent Workshop this Tuesday:

Next week, we will give the second round of I-Ready assessments in Reading and Math to all Grade 1-8 students. Please talk to your child about doing their very best on the tests. Their performance will measure progress in standards-based skills, help the teacher plan instruction to meet their needs and provide parents with the results. Please help ensure your child is in attendance and showing their best effort next week!

On Wednesday, December 20th, we will be holding our first ever Festive Family Night. Powell Student Council is teaming up with vocal and instrumental music and the WRAP program to bring you a celebration of winter holidays around the world. Starting at 5pm, our music department will provide you with both vocal and instrumental holiday music at 6pm, then join us in the quad for games, crafts, photos, and other fun surprises. This is sure to be a festive night for families!

Starting on Monday December 18th, Student Council has planned fun dress up days to celebrate the magic of the season. Click the pdf above for all the details!

On Friday December 15th, students may also participate in a campus wide cleanup, before school, and earn a holiday accessory to wear for our winter spirit week.

We have launched the "Check Your Five" expectations for students across all grade levels. We can achieve a safe and productive learning environment If every student follow these five reminders every day. Uniforms are a must for the safety and learning environment. A parent conference with the principal is required for any student who is not wearing the school uniform; call the school office to schedule an appointment.

Uniforms are Here-For families who ordered from the Assistance League; your child will be bringing home their items this week. IF you need to order more uniforms or missed the opportunity to order in the fall, please email the school counselor EArreola@lbschools.net with the sizes you need to order.

Still in Stock!!! With colder weather here, you can purchase the sweatsuit. Allowable for Middle School PE and for uniforms. Stop by the office or call to purchase your set.

Girls Track, Coach Washington (PE Teacher) Practices Monday-Thursday for 1 hour 15 minutes, 3:30-4:45. The team had this first practice meet on 12/2 and will compete again next Saturday, 12/9.

Boys Basketball, Coach Chavarria Congratulations to the students who made the basketball team. We have an away game on Monday, 12/4 at 4:30 at Hughes Middle School.

Powell is Title 1 school and we want to empower our parents with knowledge about our programs and plans. Check out the Title 1 newsletter from our parent facilitator, Mrs. Lloyd, to get informed and become involved in our continuous improvement. Jackie and Shadow, the Eagles of Big Bear, have a live cam. If you're lucky, you might hear them "chortling" back and forth to each other. They are stepping up their nest visits and making their nest stronger with each addition.
