News from Mr. Culbreth
Warrior Family,
It's that time of year again! We look forward to welcoming students back into the building for what is going to be an outstanding school year. I want to give a couple of reminders as we start the year. Please remember that all parent drop-off and pick-up is at the rear of the school. No cars should be in the bus lanes during drop-off and pick-up times. I want to encourage you to connect with your child's teachers within the first few days of school. Email is usually the best way to reach them. We are in the process of updating our website so if you can't find your child's teacher on our website, please email me and I will connect you. I look forward to what this school year is going to bring us. I thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. I want to encourage you to partner with us to make every child's educational experience in our building the best that it can be. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.

Title I - Parent and Family Engagement
Lakeview Middle believes that parent and family engagement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities. Our school hosts regular meetings throughout the year to facilitate this process. In addition to these meetings, parents have the right to request additional meetings and workshops they feel will benefit their child. The Parent Involvement Coordinator will take requests to the administration to see how these requests can be incorporated into the school’s Plan of Action. Also, parents can request a meeting with their child’s teacher or the administration if they have questions or concerns about their child. Parents can call the school at (706) 866-1040 or email the teacher via the school website (www.lms.catoosa.k12.ga.us)

Title I Family Compacts
What is a Family-School Compact?
A Family-School Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all students get the individual support they need to reach and exceed grade-level standards.
Effective Compacts:
Link goals to School Improvement Plan
Focus on Student Learning Skills
Describe how Teachers will help students using high-quality instruction.
Share Specific Strategies parents can use at home.
Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress.
Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe, and participate in the classroom.
Please hit the link below for parent input on the 2023-2024 family compacts.
Students will receive Family Compacts in September
Please make sure you go over the Family Compacts for Student Achievement with your child and keep the compact information sheet at home. Please sign and have your child return the Compact signature sheet to their homeroom teacher.
Students that return their signed Compact signature sheet by September 21st will be entered in a drawing for a set of resource books. (ELA/MATH/SS/Science)

ESOL News
All ESOL students will be tested for growth in English language acquisition. This annual assessment will cover the following domains: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. When English language learners (ELL) earn an overall score of 4.3 they may exit the ESOL program and become monitored students for the next two years. If your student is part of this program and you have questions, please contact Gina Witt at 706-866-1040 or astallings.lms@catoosa.k12.ga.us

Nurse Notes
Time to start a new school year and get to see some familiar faces, and get to know ones who are new to LMS.
Reminders:
- Medications CANNOT be carried on a student- unless SPECIFIC permission has been granted through CCPS.
- Please complete and return clinic records for over-the-counter meds that your child may be given at school. These are dispensed in the clinic.
- HEALTH PLANS- if your child has a health condition that requires emergency medication(s), please notify the nurse.
- ILLNESSES: if your child has a FEVER (100.4+), please do not send them to school (even if you've already given them medication for it). They must be fever-free > 24 hrs without meds before returning. For VOMITING, it must be > 24 hrs since the last episode before returning.
- HEAD LICE- does not necessitate staying home. Even though it spreads easily, it is okay for your child to be at school. However, if your child is at school, please help decrease the likelihood of spreading it by keeping the hair up and contained (in a ponytail is excellent) and not sharing hair gadgets like hair brushes or coats/hats. Treating hair with either over-the-counter or prescription lice medication and washing all linens possible are the methods for lice removal.
Illnesses usually are on the increase once we get back into classrooms, so let's all do our part in staying well this year. The following are some great ways to prevent the spread of illnesses:
- wash hands with soap and water (or hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available)
- cover your coughs and sneezes (with something over your hands)
- stay home if sick
- eat well
- stay hydrated
- exercise
- get up-to-date on your vaccinations
Speaking of vaccinations, ALL 7th GRADERS... It is a Georgia state requirement that all 7th-grade students receive 2 immunizations: MCV4 and Tdap. These are available at a walk-in clinic, health department, and doctor's office. Please have your provider at the facility you visit, document the vaccines on a GA3231, and then bring that form to the LMS Nurse or Registrar. If your child has not yet received these 2 vaccines, please get this taken care of ASAP. The deadline is AUGUST 31, 2023 for these vaccinations.
If you have any questions, please contact me at LMS.
