Navigators Keep Their Compass Pointed toward Success
Principal's Corner
This Month in Navigator Country
We've almost reached the finish line!! Each school year is an endurance marathon with highs and lows along the trail. Learning, growing, realizing, understanding and Navigating our path toward success and we can see the finish line. May brings us opportunities to culminate learning journeys and celebrate our accomplishments and I couldn't be prouder of the work our Navigators have done this year.
While we still have some finishing touches to put on some of our academic goals we are also going to spend some time this month exploring some "life" learning through Innovation Week. Innovation Week this year is really 3 1/2 days that we're taking a step out of our normal curriculum and exploring something new and different. Each student has had an opportunity to view commercials advertising the course offerings and then completed a google form where they selected 3 topics they want to explore. Every student will be placed in 1 of the 3 topics they selected. They will stay with that "class" for all of our Innovation Days beginning the afternoon of May 3rd and continuing until the end of the school day on May 8th. You will receive a letter with your child's Innovation Week class and lunch time listed by May 2nd. Many of these classes will have field trips so a field trip permission slip may be coming home on May 2nd as well. Please make sure to get these forms completed and sent back ASAP since our turn around time is short. All supply and field trip costs are provided for by the campus and our PTA.
The week of May 13-17 will be our end of year MAP testing. Please encourage your child to try their best on this final assessment as this is the data that will be used to determine what skills they are ready to learn in August.
Award programs are also this month. If your child is receiving an award you should receive an invitation to the program (see the Upcoming Events section for dates) by May 6th for Comprehensive and by May 8th for either STEM or Fine Arts Academy. More detailed information on the possible awards is listed in the Parent Connections section.
As we move through the final days of the school year please help us keep our Navigators focused on learning by reminding your child to follow all of our Compass Traits (behavior expectations). You can find these positive behavior supports here: Compass Traits
