The Weekly Update #4

Congratulations to the following Dutch Fork High

School Orchestra Students for being accepted into the 2024 South Carolina All-

State Orchestra:

Annaleah Shelley (cello), Annie Xu (flute), Caroline Huang (Principal

cello), Max Nie (cello), William M. Wang (cello), Taehoon Noh (violin), Thomas

Mckinney (cello). These students traveled to Riverbluff HS in Lexington, SC this

past weekend to work with world renowned conductors Creston Herron and John

Concklin. We are proud of your hard work and talent.

Mrs. Twining's chemistry honors classes explored metallic bonding by creating alloys using copper pennies and zinc. The students first coated the pennies with zinc, creating the 'silver' look. Next the students heated the coated penny causing the zinc and copper to combine to make a 'gold' penny (brass alloy). Students kept the pennies they created.

Create Opp is a no-cost, 6-month software development training program open to all ages 18 and over, including graduating seniors. Graduates of the program receive a continuing education certificate as a Junior Full-Stack Software Engineer and are placed with a Columbia-based employer in a 2-year salaried apprenticeship.
