Cornerstone May Update
A visit to Centralia College
A Field Trip For Parents
Cornerstone staff joined parents and a few children in a tour of Centralia College last month. The college tour was coordinated with CC staff to provide visitors with an idea of what might be available for parents planning their own journey in life.
During the tour, the group met the program coordinator for transitional studies to learn more about the CC medical assistant program. The team was able to explore nursing opportunities the college offers. According to Washington State Security Department Employer Demand Reports, nursing is the most sought after certification in Lewis County; this pathway is likely to lead to future employment locally.
The visitors also learned about the General Education Diploma (GED) available at Centralia College, as well as ways to complete an Associate's Degree previously put on hold. There are many ways CC can support parents who want to return to the classroom. Use the button below to discover what Centralia College can offer.
The visit to Centralia College was a huge success, and you can see from all the smiles, that everyone enjoyed this field trip for parents.

Thank you for your feedback
We want to thank you for participating in our survey. We wanted to know what the Chehalis community thought of the Cornerstone program and the impact on families in our community. We asked, "How are we doing and how can we improve?" Below is a summary of the results:
The Cornerstone program in Chehalis has been instrumental in providing essential services to the community. It has facilitated transportation for students to attend summer school, provided parenting skills through the Love and Logic program, and offered crucial support to homeless families. The program has also been pivotal in connecting students with mental health specialists and empowering parents to value their education. However, some respondents were unsure about the services offered by Cornerstone. Suggestions for improvement included additional support such as laptops for home study, financial assistance for gas and youth sports, and more information about the program's offerings.
Thanks to the 31 participants for sharing their thoughts, we have 65 ratings of comments about the following topics:
- Community Support
- Housing Support
- Christmas Support
- Job Application Support
- Family-School Bridge
- Love and Logic Program
- Parenting Skills
- Education Value
- Children's Education
- Turning Point Students
Our hope is that Washington Student Achievement Council will provide funding for another year of support in the Chehalis community. With fingers crossed, we are making plans for Cornerstone in the 2024-25 school year. The survey results, and YOUR feedback will help us make plans for even better support of Chehalis families in the future.
Thank you!
