I was visiting one of my favorite school spaces today, and not just because I was a choir kid in high school (baritone, no big deal). I love visiting Mrs. Eck's classroom because of the student engagement. Kids use their bodies in addition to their voices. They answer both specific and abstract questions. There is an extraordinary level of student collaboration, and plenty of smiles and joy. While our kids are learning about themselves as they sing, paint, sculpt, write, draw, or act, they are being supported by an amazing cadre of teachers. Please keep supporting our kids and arts education!

Please take a moment to review the SHSD Family & Student Handbook with your student. The handbook acknowledgement form was sent out via Parent Square on Tuesday September 3, 2024. We are requesting all families sign the form by September 30th.

The District began offering Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at Anderson Island Elementary School this year. Based on enrollment capacity, we have decided to offer TK at Cherrydale Primary School and Chloe Clark Elementary School, beginning in November.

Transitional Kindergarten is an early learning program for children who do not have access to high-

quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten. A screening process is used to determine

whether a child qualifies for the program. We have waitlists for both Cherrydale Primary and Chloe

Clark Elementary, with strong interest at both schools.

Students qualify through an application and screening process. This free program is available for

children who will turn 4 years old by August 31, 2024, and are not currently enrolled in an early learning program and demonstrate financial, academic, and/or social-emotional needs. Transitional Kindergarten will focus on essential academics, social-emotional skills, and learning habits to empower children as they launch into their academic journey.

Starting on Monday, September 16, the 3:15 after-school activity bus will begin operating at 3:45 instead. As a reminder, any students utilizing this resource needs to be working under the supervision of an adult on campus until they board the bus. The 5:15 athletics bus will continue to operate as normal.

Picture day on September 5th took us longer than expected, some students did not get their pictures taken. We have a list of the students who still need their pictures. Students on this list will take their photo on Friday September 27th. Students and families on this list will receive a picture day notification via parent square.

Our student-athletes and coaches could really use a hand this upcoming school year. We want to make the game day experience great for everyone and need volunteer to make it happen. Below is a link for each sport where coaches have identified areas they could use some help. Please consider taking a shift or two. Even if your student isn't on the team, it could be a great opportunity for you to accompany them to a game and to come see our Sentinels in action.

Training will be provided for all roles.

Hi Seniors,

I know many of you are in the thick of college applications, or at least thinking about applying. If you haven't already, it's a great time to start looking at colleges that may be right for you. CommonApp is an amazing resource where you can apply to multiple colleges at once. If you need help with college applications, reviewing essays, resumes, or just any questions about post high school life, Dr. Chase and I will be doing "Beyond HS Assistance" during the next Wednesday WIN time.

P.S. During this year, you will feel many emotions ranging from high stress to extreme joy. Don't forget to stop, take a breath, and enjoy the moment. You are all capable of doing great things!

Hey Running Start students!

Do you need lunch before you go to your college classes? We have three NEW times for you to grab lunch.

8:30 am - 8:45 am (After 1st period)

9:30 am - 9:45 am (After 2nd period)

12:05 pm - 12:20 pm (After 2nd lunch)

These will be grab-and-go style so you can conveniently transition from SHS to the college without skipping a meal. Please reach out to your counselor if you have questions.
