A letter was sent home with the students and emailed home on June 3 containing important information regarding the 5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony. Please refer to that letter for details pertaining to tickets, rain dates, and student attire.
Parents/Guardians have the option to sign your child out for the rest of the day after the Moving Up Ceremony. In an effort to make it more convenient for you, please complete the Sign Out Form linked in the letter.
BAND AND STRINGS END OF YEAR PROCEDURES & SIGN-UP FOR 2024-2025
Current Grade 3 Students:
- For students interested in beginning their journey in playing an instrument in the band or orchestra the JMI Instrumental Website is a great place to start.
- Students can watch videos on various instruments to see if any peak their interest. Mrs. Biscocho (strings) and Mr. Zapata (band) also presented all the instruments to the students during a recent assembly. The JPS Band also came to JMI so students can see how starting an instrument in elementary school looks like if they follow it through to high school.
- A FAQ page is also available on the website to help with any questions you or your student may have about the programs and the requirements.
- A Google Form is available to complete to show your student's interest in joining the program and a director of the program will respond with the acknowledgement of their interest. The deadline for this form in July 1, 2024.
Current Grade 4 Students:
- Students currently in band or strings as a 4th grade student will have a greater variety of music to play if they continue with their instrument next year. If your child is currently in Band or Strings as a 4th grade student, they will automatically be placed on the roster for next year as a 5th grade student unless you email Ms. Biscocho and Mr. Zapata to let them know your child will NOT be returning.
- If your child is currently in Band or Strings and chooses to try their hand at a new instrument in grade 5 , please email Ms. Biscocho or Mr. Zapata to let them know which instrument your child was doing and the new instrument they wish to try.
- There are benefits to keeping your students instrument over the summer.
- Your payments continue to accrue towards the eventual ownership of the instrument, rather then starting from scratch each fall.
- Your student has the opportunity and access to practice their instrument over the summer in order to foster more growth and prowess.
Grade 5 Students:
- There are benefits to keeping your students instrument over the summer.
- Your payments continue to accrue towards the eventual ownership of the instrument, rather then starting from scratch each fall.
- Your student has the opportunity and access to practice their instrument over the summer in order to foster more growth and prowess as they transition to JAMS or WWMS Middle Schools.
For more information on extending your rental through the summer, how to gauge the instrument size that is appropriate for your student, and to sign up for band or orchestra, please reference the attached letter from the JMI Band and Orchestra Dept. as well as the JMI Instrumental Music Site.
DRESS CODE REMINDERS
Students cannot wear flip-flops or slides. All shoes must have a back to them. Crocs are acceptable as long as they are in "sports mode" meaning the strap is on the back of the ankle.
Shirts must cover the stomach.
Also, please pay attention to the weather since some days can be extremely warm. Please avoid sending your child in long pants or a long-sleeve shirt, especially on hot days. While we do have fans in the classroom, not every classroom is air-conditioned so it can get warm.

Flag Day- June 14th
To honor our country's flag, JMI will be celebrating Flag Day on June 14th during school hours. During the ceremony we will have specific students read aloud their essays of what the flag means to them, a musical performance led by the Vocal Music Department and a few select pieces being played by the JMI Band and Orchestra. This event proves to be a great way to build civic responsibility and respect for our countries flag.
We are asking everyone to be patriotic for Flag Day and wear the following colors:
Grade 3 – RED
Grade 4 – WHITE
Grade 5, LLD, SCA – BLUE
**STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING TOWELS, HATS AND SUNSCREEN SINCE THE CEREMONY WILL BE OUTSIDE ON OUR BLACKTOP.**
There is no rain date for the ceremony.
Biz World Update
The students at JMI have shown to be quite the entrepreneurs with the creation of their businesses and products. Students have utilized their 21st century skills of collaboration, communication and empathy for the consumer when designing their products and business models. Furthermore, students have sharpened their presentation skills as they visited other classes to make a pitch and sell their product.
If you would like to pre-order, as a parent, you must access the form through your student's Edison email account. This is a extra layer of security that is in place for the educational property of Edison students, and restricts access to content created by Edison students from outside users. Please sit with your student and have them log in using their Edison email credentials to place a pre order.
Students will be able to make purchases during our BizWorld Sales Day on June 14.
