Ms. Steinberg's Weekly News
Week of October 3rd, 2016
Take a look at what we learned this week:
Language Arts
We played games to practice the spelling of word study words. We reviewed short a, i and o words. We learned that inflected endings (-s and -ing) change a word. We learned about main idea and details by watching a brainpop jr. video and finding the main idea and details in various books throughout the week. The book we spent the most time on was Fox and a Kit. In Writing we recognized and wrote declarative sentences (sentences that tell something, start with a capital letter and end with a period). This week we wrote personal narratives. Students picked an event that happened in their life and wrote about it and how that event made them feel.
Math
In Math we switched gears to subtraction! We spent a lot of time focusing on the vocabulary. Please reinforce the concepts with your child at home with the subtraction packet in their blue communication folder. We worked on solving subtraction problems written in subtraction number sentences and we worked on reading subtraction word problems and solving.
Social Studies
In Social Studies we had a great time on our field trip to the National Liberty Museum and the Liberty Bell! Many of the concepts and information we learned in school were reinforced through the trip. We learned new information too! Thanks again to our chaperones for coming with us! We continued our U.S. Symbols unit by creating projects in small groups. Each group researched their symbol and began to create their symbol poster. Next week they will share them with the class!
