News You Can Use for May 10, 2024
A Message from our Principal...
Larson Families,
It is hard to believe that it is May and the end of the 23-24 school year is already upon us! I am so proud of our students and the growth they have shown throughout the year. Our iReady, MAP and AimsWeb results are showing great improvement over last year. This would not have happened without the amazing staff here at Larson as well as the support of each of our families.
The next cuople of weeks will be filled with fun as we prepare for Field Day, classroom celebrations and other events. If you would like to volunteer to help at school over the last few weeks, we would love to have you. Please call the front office or your child’s teacher if you are interested and we will point you in the right direction.
It has been an amazing year and I appreciate all of the support our community has given Larson. I hope each of you enjoy your summer break; 1st-5th grades will be back in school on August 15th and Kindergarten will get started on August 22nd. We can’t wait to see everyone in the Fall!

Thank You Mat-su Schools Foundation!
Hello! My name is Jessica Clark. I have been the occupational therapist at Larson Elementary since 2013. As an occupational therapist I believe kids should have increased opportunities to movement based activities throughout their school day. Larson Elementary teachers are rockstars when it comes to integrating movement, and alternative seating options!!
This year, I was awarded 1 of 10, Durham School Service grants from Mat-Su Schools Foundation! I have so much gratitude for this grant! It was used to support supplies needed to create movement pathways throughout the school as well as begin to create a self regulation check out station for teachers to utilize and check out materials.
Research has shown when students have access to movement based opportunities and equipment in their learning environment, attention, focus and positive behaviors increase. When students have their self regulation needs met, they are able to retain academic information and engage in social situations with increased positivity, allowing for a positive school experience.
When we stimulate and activate our senses, we are providing information to our postural, visual and auditory systems, which are all required for successful academic engagement. When our body is ready, our mind can learn.
If you happen to be walking through the hallways, you will notice the pathways have been well used! They will be freshened up next school year. I am so thankful to work in a community supporting kids across their day!
