Grade 10 MCAS Information
On Tuesday, March 25th, and Wednesday, March 26th, all grade 10 Taunton High School students will take the English Language Arts portion of the MCAS Exam in the morning. On Tuesday, May 20th and Wednesday, May 21st, all grade 10 students will take the Mathematics MCAS Exam in the morning. While the test is no longer a graduation requirement, there are opportunities for students to earn significant scholarships through the state.
On the dates of testing, test-takers need to bring a charged Chromebook and their power cord to school. The tests are taken on their Chromebook, so this is very important. We do not have extra Chromebooks or power cords.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires that we provide students with an extremely strict testing environment. For students, this means:
Headphones, iPods, Smart watches, or electronic devices may not be used at any time during the testing period. All cell phones will be collected by test proctors before the start of the exam and returned to the student at the end of the exam period. No exceptions. Students may bring books and schoolwork to do should they complete the exam before the end of the testing period.
Students must be in their assigned exam room no later than 7:33 a.m.
You can help your son or daughter prepare for this state-wide assessment by reinforcing the importance of:
Giving your best effort on each test question
Being on time
Getting a good night’s sleep and eating breakfast
Hydroponics Lab Project Collaborates with Culinary!
This year, THS has partnered Green City Growers (GCG) to provide students hands-on learning experiences with a hydroponics lab. We applied, under Ms. Blennau's leadership, for the Farming Reinforces Education and Student Health (FRESH) grant. Green City Growers has built, maintained, and provided educational programming in gardens in the greater Boston area since 2008. In addition to outdoor gardens, they have successfully implemented educational hydroponic programs in 8 different schools, as well as maintained hydroponic growing units at many more non-school based sites. The hydroponic education programs support students’ understanding of farming practices and technologies and allow them to develop a personal connection to growing food. They also build students’ technical skills around growing food hydroponically. This week, our students were able to donate the first round of lettuce for our culinary students to use :)!

The Pulsera Project
Upcoming Drama Festival
The THS Drama Club is excited to compete in the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild High School Drama Festival and invites you to their preview performance of "Elephant's Graveyard" on Friday, February 28th at 6:00pm in the THS auditorium.
The true tale of the tragic 1916 collision between a struggling circus and a small town in Tennessee. Blending historical fact and legend, the play explores America’s deep-seated craving for spectacle, violence, and revenge. Please note that this production contains strong and sensitive subject matter and is intended for mature audiences.
Tickets are $10 at the door. Your support means the world to these talented students as they prepare for competition. We hope to see you there!
