Parkside Post
January 2025
Greetings Parkside Bullfrogs!
Happy New Year to all our PSE Families!
This month our students are taking their FAST and STAR state assessments to monitor their progress as we reach the middle of the school year! Assessments are from January 14-24. The testing calendar is in this newsletter so please look at the dates your child(ren) will be testing. Please be sure your child is getting a good night of sleep and eating a healthy breakfast prior to testing.
We are excited to celebrate the students who have made at least 50% progress towards their annual reading growth goal in iReady! One of our school's Wildly Important Goals (WIG) was to have 100% of our students reach their individual growth goal! They are well on their way! Those students will enjoy Rita's Italian Ice and some extra recess on Friday! If a student didn't achieve this goal YET, we know they will continue to work hard so they can reach their end of year goal by May!
January 28, from 5-7pm, will be our annual Family Academic Night! Please join us on that evening to help us reach our goal of having families attend at least one school event during the year! We will have the following that evening:
- Dinner provided from 5-6pm (Eat and then visit classrooms or visit room and then eat!)
- Math and ELA activities
- Student-Led Conferences
- Book Fair
- Yearbook and Spirit Wear Orders (Cash only)
See the flyer below for more information and please join us!
2025 Literacy Week is almost here! During the week of January 27-31 we will be celebrating all things Literacy! Book Fair, Family Academic Night, and a few other fun themed days will be happening so please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information! We are building readers and readers are leaders!
There is important information for parents to know in the newsletter, so please take a few moments to look through the information. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or call the front office. We are here to help!

Science Happenings
The weather has been great for spending time outside! Get some fresh air, ride bikes, go to the park, or just take a walk! Enjoy the cool temperatures while we can!
We will continue to recognize students for exemplifying our PSE Expectations...Prepared to Learn, Show Respect to Ourselves and Others, Be Responsible...We will also be recognizing our students for modeling the 7 Habits, as part of the Leader in Me Framework. Your child has learned the 7 Habits and will continue to use them at school and at home!
If you'd like to support the 7 Habits with your child at home, a great way would be to have a copy of the book, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids! Click the link below to purchase the book!

Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Perez
Ms. Perez is here for our students when they need her! If your child could benefit from talking to our school counselor, please let us know! Ms. Perez does individual, small group, and whole class lessons and support!
Morning Drop Off & School Start Time
Drop off starts at 7:30am. Please do not drop your child off prior to 7:30 as there is no supervision. School starts at 8:05. Please have your child to school on time! Students being in their classrooms at 8:05 helps them start their daily routine without feeling rushed. Think about how running late for work impacts your own mindset as an adult! We want our students to feel confident and prepared to start each day!

CAR SIGNS!
Please make sure you have a car sign in your vehicle every day. It significantly slows down our dismissal when we have to check IDs and verify approved pick ups. If you do not have a car sign, please come to the front office and we will provide one. You can also request multiple signs if you have different people picking up your child.
Walker Procedures for PreK, Kindergarten and First Graders
The safety of our students is a top priority. All preK, kindergarten and 1st grade students who walk home, need to be met at the walker gate by an adult who has the walker tag. Students will not be released without the proper walker tag being presented. If you forget your tag, our staff will call the front office to verify approved pick ups. The person picking up the child must have a photo ID to verify identity, if they don't have the walker tag. Students who walk home with older students, with parent permission, are permitted to leave.
Thank you for partnering with us to make Parkside a safe place for all!
