May Newsletter
Principal Ruzicka's Message
It's already May!
May brings spring weather and all kinds of activity at school. Spring sports wrap up this month, classes are in full swing, and the end is in sight for our senior class. Prom is this Saturday, and we look forward to seeing our Panthers in their finery on Saturday. Yearbooks are now available for purchase; the cost is $40 and you can pay online or at the school library.
This week, students learned about how classes and credits work toward earning a high school diploma. We reviewed course offerings for next year, and students should be bringing home information about those options and their requests for classes to share with families. You can find links to these documents and presentations on the school website.
Annual SBAC testing will happen May 14-16. Students in grades 7, 8 and 10 take both English and math tests this year, and grades 8 and 11 take the science test. Testing will be in the morning each day. These tests are important for students to show their learning and to meet graduation requirements. The best way to support your student on test day? Make sure they show up for school after a good night's sleep.
As we finish the year, we have a number of events scheduled; keep an eye on our website and Facebook for information about those events. We are planning an exciting and fun "Paul Bunyan Day" for the last day of school, June 15. This day will include a field day, a BBQ lunch and end with a community car and tractor show. We are inviting families as well as alumni and community to celebrate the end of a great year at White Pass. Go Panthers!

Resources
Does your student need clothing or other essentials? We have lots of coats, sweatshirts and other items in our Panther Pantry. We also stock hygiene items such as deodorant, toothpaste and soap. Students can check with any staff member to access the Pantry, and this is always confidential. We do need warm weather shorts and Tshirts. If you have any gently used or new items to donate, you can drop those off at our main office.
Do you know about our FREE tutoring? GEARUP provides tutors here on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, and there is a bus home afterward. If your student is struggling with school work or just needs to finish up some work, come to the College/Career Center for tutoring. They have snacks!
Lewis County has a free resource for families called Safe Harbor. This is a one stop directory to behavioral health and community services in Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor, Lewis and Pacific counties. Safe Harbor aims to increase knowledge and awareness of mental well-bring, to provide information about systems of support and increase access to care.
