Message from the Principal
As we near the end of the school year, we reflect on the incredible journey we've had together as the Weaver Wolfpack. We are proud to announce that our 3rd - 5th graders have completed the Reading and Math MCAs, demonstrating their hard work and dedication. Our 5th graders will be taking the Science MCA this Wednesday, and we know they will shine bright.
Magnificent May is upon us, filled with exciting events that we hope you will join us for. From the PTO School Carnival to the Family BBQ, Super Kids Day, and more, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and make lasting memories. Please review the newsletter for event dates and ways to volunteer. We are immensely grateful for the support our parents and community provide to Weaver Lake.
As we celebrate the end of the school year, let us not forget Teacher Appreciation Week, taking place from May 6 - 10. The PTO and I will be honoring our staff all week long. We are fortunate to have such an incredible team of educators who work tirelessly to provide our students with the best STEM education and experiences.
Thank you for being a part of the Weaver Lake community. A special congratulations to our 5th graders and their families. We look forward to finishing the school year strong and creating more wonderful memories together.
With warm regards,
Lena Christiansen, Principal

Intent to Return
Parents/Guardians of K - 4th Grade STEM Scholars, we are beginning the process of planning for the 2024 - 25 school year. To plan accurately, we will need to know if your child will be returning to Weaver Lake Elementary, moving out of the district, or planning on attending another school (i.e. parochial, out of district, in-district, etc.). We are also looking for your input when placing your child in a classroom next year. Complete and submit a separate form for each student by no later than May 3, 2024.

MDE Redesigning Assessment Reports – Your Voice Matters!
Do you have ideas about how the statewide assessment results, like the MCA, could be shared with the public and school and district staff?
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is beginning the process of redesigning the statewide assessment reports. This includes evaluating how student results are organized and communicated (including the labels like "does not meet” or “exceeds" the standards, and what the reports will look like for new academic standards). The redesigned reports will be seen for the first time in summer and fall 2025.
Please take the survey to share your experience: tinyurl.com/state-testing-survey. It should take no longer than 15 minutes. Responses are completely anonymous and needed by May 19.
Your voice is important to this process. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Please reach out to mde.testing@state.mn.us with any questions or concerns about the survey or feedback process.
Volunteer Coordinator Update
Greetings Weaver Lake Elementary Volunteers!
We’re at the end of another wonderful year filled with volunteer opportunities here at Weaver Lake. Thanks to the more than 300 registered volunteers who have helped make this year a success! You have given over 2300 hours of your time this year doing everything from collating and stapling papers, to classroom parties, to school-wide events, to field trips and so much more. Everyone here at Weaver Lake would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has so generously given their time this year.
Although we’re wrapping things up, the year isn’t over yet! We still have a couple of great events to come that we need your help with:
The first is the School Carnival on Friday, May 3. This family event is one that students look forward to all year long and there are so many ways you can help! Check out the sign-up and volunteer to run a game, sell concessions, monitor the craft or more.
The Weaver Lake Family BBQ is back after a long absence! Volunteers will be needed to help with sales of meal tickets, serving and restocking things. Come have lunch with your child(ren) and stay to help out during a different grade level’s lunch period! Click here to volunteer.
The STARLab will be making its final appearance of the school year May 14-17. Each classroom will be visiting the dome for a science lesson, and we love to have volunteers to help with this! Check out the sign-up and feel free to sign-up for multiple classes!
Super Kids Day will be held on May 24 this year. Each grade will have their time out on the field to enjoy challenges and activities that get their bodies moving. Volunteers will be needed to run each station and keep things flowing so the kids get to enjoy all of the stations. Watch your inbox for this sign-up!
The Media Center will need help cleaning and checking in student devices to be stored over the summer. This is one of the most laid back volunteer opportunities we have. It gives our volunteers a chance to sit back and chat with other volunteers while helping out our media specialists! Click here to volunteer.
Be sure to watch your inbox for grade-level opportunities (we still have a couple of upcoming field trips!) and important end-of-year information in the coming weeks.
