New K-12 Math Curriculum
We are excited to announce such BIG news! NUSD has adopted a new comprehensive Common Core Aligned K-12 math program, Big Ideas Math. Kindergarten to 12th grade teachers received training over the summer and new student materials have been delivered to the school sites.
Big Ideas Math is a research-based program providing a focused and coherent curriculum for students in elementary, middle and high school. There are a number of online resources and tools for teachers, students and parents/guardians. We encourage you to utilize these resources to support your student's math development.
For more information about Big Ideas, please visit www.bigideaslearning.com.
Technology Rollouts, 1:1 Tech in NUSD
Our Information Technology department worked through the summer to deploy new tech across NUSD.
The final installment of a district-wide Chromebooks rollout was completed with carts for NJHS and NMHS. This achieves the goal NUSD set in 2016 of reaching a 1:1 student-to-technology ratio for grades 3-12. We're also starting to refurbish and replace our original Chromebooks, which are over five years old. This will ensure students have access to fast, updated machines.
We are starting installations for a district-wide projector project. We expect to complete this project within a few months and have this tech available in every classroom.
Equipment is arriving for a district-wide wireless upgrade primarily funded through federal E-Rate dollars. This will provide a faster and more up-to-date wireless system at all school sites.
Get Involved!
At the district level, there are committees and recommending bodies that need parent, guardian and community member input.
Save the Date!
NUSD is hosting our annual Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Community Event on Thursday, January 24, 2019. We will offer two sessions: a morning session from 9:00am to 11:00am, or a repeated session that evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. More information will follow, but ALL NUSD community members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Find out more about the LCAP here.
