Join the Cubing Club!
If your student enjoys 3D twisty puzzles, they might enjoy working with other young people at monthly meet-ups on the first Saturday of each month at the McMinnville Library.
Willamette 5th grader Jude Turk started the club after he became passionate about Rubik’s Cubes and began competing in speedcubing tournaments.
Although competing is not required to be in the Cubing Club, you can check the tournament out tomorrow, Saturday, September 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the McMinnville Community Center. Free to spectators!
Find out more about Jude and the world of speedcubing in this week’s News-Register story “Mac fifth-grader looking forward to upcoming cube-solving tournament” by Starla Pointer.

Building Future Leaders
Memorial's Recess Buddies have launched for the new school year. Students grades 3 - 5 spend time with grades K - 2 during recess to perform peer leadership roles on the primary playground.
The Buddies wear red vests to identify themselves and they help coach and referee games, assist the younger students with putting away equipment, look for students who are not engaging with others, and also scout for students who are doing the right thing and deliver Pride Paws to them. Way to go Bulldogs!
Make Attendance a Habit
Did you know that creating good attendance habits right from the start can carry over into high school, college and the working world? Learning to show up every day matters for all grade levels beginning in pre-K!
Click for tips on how to set a good attendance pattern for the year by creating a smooth morning routine.
Basketball and Free Clinics
The McMinnville Basketball Association is holding tryouts for students in 4th-8th grades next month with some free preseason clinics starting this weekend.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Storyteller Valentina Ortiz Pandolfi will share folktales from Mexico and beyond in this fun event at the McMinnville Library.
Beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, the event is for all ages. Find out more on your school’s Peachjar button.
Golf & Lunch
The McMinnville Kiwanis are celebrating 100 years of serving the community and kids with a fundraising Golf & Lunch event. Club funds go toward projects like the Beyond Backpacks partnership (pictured), which last month provided 800 pairs of new shoes to MSD students just before the start of the new school year. The club also partners with McMinnville Public Library to provide high quality books to first graders over three visits to the schools over the year, encouraging students to visit the library and participate in the Summer Reading program.
Thank you, Kiwanis! Find more info under your school’s Peachjar button.
