Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 5 | 14 August 2024
Dear Parents and Carers
Your children have a lovely long weekend coming up with Monday being a pupil free day. On Monday, our staff with be attending a faith day where they will learn about Christian meditation. Our school already has embedded meditation practices, and this will enhance what we already do, with a Catholic Identity lens.
We are halfway through the term and there are many viruses circulating, more particularly Influenza A. You will have received messages from us about keeping your child at home should they have any symptoms of illness. Please ensure that they remain at home until all symptoms have cleared up so that germs aren’t spread to others. Our cleaners use hospital grade cleaning products and will be especially thorough in wiping down high touch areas around the school.
Many children are still arriving at school well before 8.15am. We would like to remind all families that teachers are only on duty from 8.15am to look after your children. Please do not drop your children at school prior to 8.15am. We also have a whole office full of children who are regularly picked up late, often up to half an hour or longer, after school has finished. While we understand the occasional delay, consistent late pick-ups should not be happening. We have an onsite before and after school care facility run by Kids Academy whose services you can use if you are unable to regularly pick your children up on time. We thank you for your assistance and support in this matter.
We have a busy calendar over the next two weeks and look forward to seeing many children at the P&F run school disco on Friday evening. A reminder that if your child is attending the junior disco they need to be accompanied by an adult. This event is mobile free, and children should not be bringing their phones to the disco. Please ensure that you pick your child up on time after the senior disco, which concludes at 7.45pm. We also look forward to Book Week dress up on Tuesday next week. This is an event always well supported by our families and we look forward to seeing all the wonderful costumes of favourite book characters.
On Thursday 8th of August was the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first saint. We are reminded at this time of one of Mary MacKillop’s most famous sayings ‘Never see a need without doing something about it’. One small act, seemingly inconsequential to you, can have a profound and lasting impact on others. It starts with a small ripple and can become a tsunami of difference in any community. Let’s commit to making a tsunami of difference so that our OLOM family can truly thrive.
Please keep those Year 3 students making final preparations to receive their Sacrament of Penance next week in your prayers.
God bless you all.
