ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
FAMILY NEWS
Posts by Prindle
It's September!
I hopw everyone had a great long weekend, and it was filled with some fun, some rest, and some reading! It's amazing what a few weeks have brought as we figure out routines, hallway patterns, and learning form one another. Personally, I can't be more grateful for our community, specifically, our staff. Our staff have worked tirelessly, and it shows in the learning in the classroom. Children are reading, experiementing iwth math stratgeies, and more! We hope families are hearing about learning and witnessing the great staff as you attended Curriculum Nights this week.
Our building dedication is this Saturday, and we hope to share some of the happenings at Hisle during this time. We'll have sensory stations and literacy exploration in our early childhood and kindergarten area, math games that are being utilized in grades 1-3, and most importantly, some of the community building activities we've done in the classroom. This is WHY our building is here....community, collaboration, and learning! Come see it in action on Saturday from 10-10:30am! We will then gather to sing our school song, learn a little bit about Mr. Hisle, AND celebrate this community! The event will end promptly at 11am so families can lunch together! Opening a new campus takes ALL of us, and we should spend time celebrating! We hope to see you there!
Remember, as Hisle Hounds, we howl loud and proud!

DISMISSAL TIPS AND ADJUSTMENTS
TRAFFIC FLOW AND THE STOP SIGN!
We know the stop sign at Frontenac Street/San Gabriel backs up coming to Hisle and sometimes leaving Hisle too! My HUGE appreciation is we are each taking turns and doing what a four way stop should be, AND we will continue to work on improvements! Currently, buses are arriving on time to get to class easily in the mornings. Families are not trying to "park and walk" children to the front door. Most importantly, children are happy to be at school, and official instruction begins PROMPTLY at 7:30am. Dismissal is improving daily even in surprise rain!
A few things to note:
- Nothing matters more than safe arrival and dismissal!
- Learning can begin at 7:10am IN classrooms and traffic gets worse the closer you try to arrive by 7:30am. Students often love the early morning time of exploration and time visiting with their teacher and friends.
- We will continue to EXPECT cars to ENTER the campus on Adaptability Ave between 7:05a-7:30a and 2:30p-3:00p. This will allow us to use the appropriate "waiting lanes" on campus.
- ONE IMPROVEMENT WE WILL MAKE IS RED CARS MAY CHOOSE HOW THEY LEAVE HISLE!
- We're working with our crossing guard to gather a larger group of children before crossing San Gabriel which should help with traffic flow too.
- Dismissal begins at 2:40pm, and so families that get in line at or before 2 pm will wait almost an hour. If you arrive at 2:30ish or afterwards, we are CONSISTENTLY finishing before 3 pm for RED and around 3:00pm for GREEN.
NOTES for GREEN AND BLUE CAR LANE
- There are two lanes in our "waiting drive". Blue is the right lane and green is the left lane.
- Please ensure you are NOT blocking the various drives as we line up to pick up students
A OPTION FOR RED CAR LINE ONLY:
- After dropping off your child OR picking your child up in the afternoon, you may turn left to leave the campus on Flexibility Street to proceed to Adaptable Ave. (the way the you come in)This will increase the number of cars heading EAST on San Gabriel AND decrease the number of cars trying to turn left from Frontenac Street leaving our campus.
"Reading is GRAND!"
Let's Celebrate our Grandparents!
We are excited to host Grandparents Day on Friday, September 6th. This year, we'd love for grandparents to read to small groups of children. Classroom teachers will have different books to choose from when grandparents arrive at the classroom. Below is each grade level time!
- PreK3 AM: 8:45-9:15 am
- Prek3 PM: 2:00-2:30pm
- Prek4: 8:45-9:15 am
- Kindergarten: 9:15-9:45am
- 1st Grade: 10:15-10:45am
- 2nd Grade: 9:40-10:10am
- 3rd Grade: 2:00-2:30pm
- 4th Grade: 7:55-8:25am
- 5th Grade: 8:45-9:15am
Families should RSVP by Wednesday, September 5th. Just a few friendly reminders:
- Grandparents must sign in to the campus so bring an ID!
- We're asking that ONLY grandparents attend due to space in the classrooms.
School Attendance MATTERS!
Communication is Important!
Regular attendance is an essential ingredient for success, both in school and the workplace. We want our children to be here everyday for both academic and social growth, in order to prepare them for the future. If your child is absent, please email hisleattendance@leanderisd.org so that those absences can be coded appropriately. Excused absences include illness, doctor appointment, or attending a funeral. Traveling is not an excused absence, even when the parent notifies you or us ahead of time. Families are notified via Remind after 3 unexcused absences, you will receive an email after 7 unexcused absences, and then another notification after 10 unexcused absences. Once your child has 7 or more unexcused absences, families are required to watch an Online Truancy Prevention Session as a result of those unexcused absences. It is important to know and understand that the same laws apply to PreK and kindergarten students. Though it is an option for parents to enroll in PreK/Kindergarten, once enrolled, they are required to follow the same attendance laws.
Please reach out to Marcia Fields if you have any questions or concerns regarding attendance for your children.

Forgotten Items
- Water Bottles, Coats, Etc: Each day, we will make deliveries to the classrooms at 10am for any items families drop off prior to 10am. This will allow children to remain in the classroom learning! Items delivered after 10am, we will add to the lunch delivery cart! If there is something a child NEEDS for learning such as glasses, we will get them to the classroom as quickly as possible.
- Lunches: We will deliver lunches to the lunch room on a cart by the doors 5 minutes prior to lunches. Families can drop lunches off and put their child's name on the lunch box.
Volunteer Opportunities
Campus Site-Based Committee
Each year, our campus has a site-based committee thst discussed our campus student data and campus improvement plan. This group includes staff, administrators, family members, business members, and community members. We meet four times a year on Thursday evenings, and we'd love to hear your voice! Our first meeting will be October 10th at 5:30pm at Hisle Elementary.
If you are interested in joining this group and helping impact learning at Hisle, please reach out to niki.prndle@leanderisd.org
Marquee
We have a marquee at the front of the campus, and we like to use it to highlight events happening on campus! We will update the marquee once a week 1x a week. Each week, we will ensure our volunteer knows "the what" needs to be on the marquee. If you are interested, please contact robin.harvey@leanderisd.org
Campus Deliveries
The office staff would love to work collaboratively with five individuals to sign up for one day each week at 10am to deliver dropped off items to individual classrooms and pick up any notes from classrooms. Classroom teachers can place ANY family correspondence, attendance notes, tardy slips in an envelope clipped to the outside door. Our volunteer would pick up the various notes to deliver to the office. Please e-mail robin.harvey@leanderisd.org if you are interested.
Number Corner
As a new campus, all of our instructional resources are NEW! This is good news, but we are working to organize the resources that instructional staff need. One of the items are 3x4 cards with questions that correlate to our math learning for each month. A volunteer would pick up a set of cards AND do the following at home.
- Cut apart the cards that are copied on 8x11 paper
- Organize each set of cards in order (there is a number at the bottom)
- Place them on the ring in order.
How do get involved with our Hisle PTO?
Please make sure you've filled out the 24-25 volunteer information form to let us know opportunities you might be interested in helping with. It'll also allow you to share ideas about what events you'd like to see on campus!
We are still looking for a Staff Appreciation Chair and a VP of Programs and Events. There is no experience required for these positions... just a willingness to help out and support our staff and kids! Please reach out to HislePTO@gmail.com if you're interested, or would like more information!
For more information about PTO, please visit HislePTO.org and follow us on Facebook at Hisle Hounds PTO and on Instagram!
