This Week In Substance Use Prevention!

Juniors and seniors at Plymouth South High School viewed If They Had Known on Monday during advisory. This 30-minute documentary highlighted the risks associated with recreational substance use, including mixing alcohol and other depressants. In addition, the documentary focused on the negative impact of current party culture and encouraged positive decision making.


Students at Plymouth Harbor Academy welcomed guest speaker Kevin Rosario from Gosnold, Inc. (a substance use treatment center). Kevin combines his lived experience with his expertise to deliver an engaging presentation focused on the importance of decision making and healthy coping skills.

What's Your Reason?

Freshman at Rising Tide Charter Public School were asked why they do not use substances and came up with the best answers, which are now hung up on posters in the school!


The purpose of the “What's Your Reason?” campaign is to make use of positive peer pressure. We want students to lead by example and to create an environment where teenage substance use is NOT the norm. Everyone can do this on their own just by making the right choices - the rest will follow!

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on November 21st in celebration of the mural painting under the Bridge in Brewster Gardens. Congratulations to the talented students and teachers involved in creating this beautiful artwork!

Third Grade Mystery Unit comes to an end!

Mrs. Foley's class just finished up the Mystery Unit in reading. They had their "celebration" this week and in addition to talking about strategies good readers (super sleuths) use we played a few games of Clue Jr.

WASTE FREE

Mrs. Hogan's class forged a campaign for a WASTE FREE lunch. They gave talks at lunch and made announcements before school and at the end of the day. They also made a public service announcement. They hope to cut the number of trash bags at the end of all lunches by half.

Mrs. Dyson's first grade disguise their turkeys. Happy Thanksgiving!

History Coming to Life in Grade Five

Students in grade five have been working hard to immerse themselves into the Revolutionary Period. As part of this work, yesterday they conducted a Revolutionary History Museum.

Thanksgiving Placemats

We are getting ready for our Annual Thanksgiving Feast at NMES. Students have been collaborating with their Big Friends and Little Friends by making Thanksgiving placemats for our special celebration on Tuesday.

Poetry Tea Time

Mrs. Godfrey hosted her first poetry tea time. Students sipped on tea while diving into poetry anthologies, taking turns reading them together. Everyone had a great time while exploring poetry during this great enrichment opportunity, and there will definitely be more in the future!

How many pajamas?

Second graders in Room 18 worked really hard using everything they know to figure out this real life pajama question: How many more pajamas do we need to collect to have as many pajamas as last year? So far this year, we have 109 pj’s. We also did a math problem to figure out how many more pj’s we need to collect to have the same numbers as last year: Last year, we collected 263.

109 + ___ = 263


Using everything we know, we figured out we only need 154 more! We have until December 6th! Let’s make year 10 the best, yet!

PCIS 2nd Annual Literacy Night

The Second Annual Literacy Night was a success! Authors and community members shared their love of literacy and how it positively impacts their lives. Writers Peter Arenstam, Hillary Monahan, Julie Hutchings, Rob Watts, and Jill Sylvester spoke to some audience members while Clifford the Big Red Dog read books to kids. The Magic Tree House Space Mission at the Planetarium was "out of this world" and EdTV showed off how cool green screens are! Thanks to all how helped make this night a success!

Literacy in Social Studies and Science

Students in Mrs. Strohschneider's class made a wall mural about contributions that still influence us today from Roman culture. The Bosma/LaFauci team recently created children storybooks about moon phases, eclipses, or our cosmic address, using storyjumper.com or Google Slides. On November 8th, our 6th grade students read their books to the PECC students in the afternoon.

A Cappella Workshop

PSMS choral students were treated to a visit from South Avenue, PSHS's co-ed a cappella group. After a new vocal warm-up, both groups practiced "Pat-a-pan", a song they will be performing together at PSMS's winter concert. South Ave members then took questions from the audience, covering topics such as auditioning for the group, fitting electives into a high school schedule, and the possibility of taking both tech and music classes. To round out the program, South Ave presented the song "Put Your Records On" with Sonia Abdel-Fattah singing solo.

Sumerian Infomercials

Students in Mrs. Burkhead's classes were able to try their hand at producing, writing, directing, and acting in an infomercial about inventions of the Sumerians. Each group chose which invention to highlight; their written skit had to include at least 20 facts, 10-17 lines of dialog, and a bit of humor. What were some of the inventions of these long-ago people? Water clocks, copper tools, sailboats, checkers, cuneiform, and the wheel!

DECA Fashion Show

Plymouth North DECA’s annual fashion show, “Très Chic”, was held on Tuesday evening in the PNHS PAC. The show was set to music and featured musical acts, a performance by the dance team, and a variety of fashion segments. The grand finale showcased girls in prom dresses accompanied by young men in the latest tuxedo fashions supplied by Dominic’s of Plymouth. New segments this year featured two student entrepreneurship ventures: Harry Jenkins CypherUS Fashions, and Nolan Liskov’s Nolan’s ‘Nana Bread. The ‘Nana Bread company is donating a portion of their sales to North’s Best Buddies program and Best Buddies students appeared in the show in the signature Nana Bread t-shirts. The show’s management team, Madison Cromwell, Samantha Gustin, and Mary High, raised over $3,000 for the DECA program through sales of corporate sponsorships and ticket sales. The young women, who began work on the show last spring, are preparing a report on the project management skills that went into producing DECA’s most successful show. They will present the results at DECA State competition in February. They are so thankful for the people who have helped them through this process, including the beautiful models, backstage help, marketing teachers, and family and friends and of course, the very generous corporate sponsors.

French Club

This week PNHS French Club participants were treated to a chocolate fondue prepared by French Club President Brooke Cayting! The meeting was very well attended and students enjoyed dipping strawberries, pretzels and cookies in the delicious fondue.


The French Club meets once a month and meetings often include sampling various French treats. Co-presidents Brooke Cayting and Emer Lindsay help to run the meetings and prepare activities for their peers.

Cosmo Photo Shoot

Juniors and seniors in the GDVC Department participated in a real world photoshoot with the seniors in Cosmetology. Cosmetology students shared with their photographers inspiration boards and each team discussed, props, lighting and backgrounds so they'd be prepared for their scheduled photography sessions. GDVC students set up the studio, posed their models, photographed and edited final prints. Both photographers and the cosmetology models gained experience in client meetings, scheduling and studio prep. Congratulations to both GDVC and Cosmetology students on a job well done!

College Signing

Today, Plymouth South High School seniors Olivia Kudrikow and Nick Siegelman signed their college acceptance letters. Having tremendous success through the years playing soccer Olivia will be attending Quinnipiac University in Connecticut this fall. Nick being an outstanding athlete in baseball will attend AIC - American International College. Congratulations to both of them and the Panthers thank them for adding their skills both on the fields, in the classrooms and with their peers.
