Important Calendar Adjustment for 2023-24
In case you missed the email!
When we build a school calendar, one of the things we include are days to accommodate for unexpected weather situations that would cause school to be cancelled. We “bank” days (or minutes) to use as needed.
The weather has been very mild this year, so our days/minutes remain in our “bank” account. This is GREAT NEWS for the Gunter ISD families! We have decided to use that surplus of minutes to shorten our school year by one day. The last day of school will be Wednesday, May 22nd, instead of Thursday, May 23rd. May 22nd will be an early release day to end the school year.
We are sure everyone is as excited as we are about this calendar adjustment. We are especially excited because:
· It gives our seniors an entire day to prepare for their graduation night.
· It allows us to say thank you by extending the summer by one day to our faculty/staff who always work so hard.
It’s a great day to be a GUNTER TIGER!

Notice: Election Day is May 4th. You can vote at any of the locations listed on this flyer.
Visit the GISD Board of Trustees page on our website for more school board information; including election information.
** You may now view recorded meetings linked from the Board Notices section of the School Board page on our website.
What does your School Board do?
The Board of Trustees is a policy-making body of persons elected by the citizens of a school district. The policies which it establishes are executed by the administration of the schools. Board members have no authority except when functioning as a board member in an official meeting.
Candidates run for specific places but do not represent certain geographical areas. Following the annual election, the Board elects a president, a vice-president, and a secretary to serve one-year terms.
Primary responsibilities of the Board:
• Manage and govern the public schools of the District;
• Adopt such rules, regulations, and bylaws as the Board deems appropriate;
• Levy and collect taxes and issue bonds;
• Prepare, adopt, and file a budget for the succeeding fiscal year and file a report of the disbursements and receipts for the preceding fiscal year;
• Have the District's fiscal account audited at district expense by a Texas-certified accountant;
• Receive bequests and donations or other monies or funds coming legally into its hands in the name of the District;
• Order, canvass the returns, declare results, and issue certificates of elections as required by law;
• Acquire and hold real and personal property in the name of the District; and
• Have the legal power and duty to perform other specific duties imposed by the State of Texas statutes. (Sec BAA, Board Policy Manual)
"The Truth About School Finance" is an article released by the Texas Association of School Boards that helps shed some light on some of the issues the majority of districts are facing throughout the state of Texas. You may read it here: https://www.tasb.org/news.../truth-about-school-finance.
We will continue to look for, and share, information that will keep you informed regarding the state of school finance in Texas.
Thank you for always being such great supporters of our kids!

New to the District
Gunter ISD is excited to announce Lauren Beville as the Gunter Lady Tiger Head Volleyball Coach for the 2024-25 school year. Coach Beville brings 25 years of volleyball experience with her; 15 years playing and 10 years of coaching.
Beville is a 2009 graduate of Hereford High School where her love of sports shined bright! She played basketball, volleyball, and ran track. Her high school volleyball accomplishments and accolades include: Regional tournament (2 years), 4A State Championship (2008), All-State honors (2 years), District Defensive MVP, and First team All-District member (3 years).
Coach Beville earned a Bachelor of Health Science from West Texas A&M University where she was a 4-year starter for the Lady Buff’s Volleyball team. She competed in the National Championship game in 2009, making an Elite Eight appearance her senior year. She also earned the titles of All-American Libero, All Conference (4 years), All-Region (2 years), and held the All-Time Digs record for 10 years.
Her coaching career has taken her to two school districts, Hereford ISD and Decatur ISD.
At Hereford ISD she served as an assistant coach/8th grade health teacher. Working alongside the head coach, they built a solid foundation which resulted in the team advancing to the 5A Regional Tournament.
At Decatur ISD she served as the varsity assistant coach. During her time at Decatur, she contributed to leading the team to Back-to-Back State 4A Championships in 2020 and 2021, Regional Semi-Finalist in 2022, and four undefeated District Championships.
Coach Beville said, “I am very excited to join the community of Gunter Nation. TPW!”
Gunter ISD is excited to announce Eric Davis as the Gunter Elementary School Principal for the 2024-25 school year. Mr. Davis graduated from the University of Texas in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in ALD Generalist Special Education. He received his Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in 2013, and has completed some coursework toward a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership.
Mr. Davis served as a Junior High teacher in Wylie ISD for 3 years. While he was there, he was active in many leadership roles including Special Education Department Chair, Inclusion, and Social Skills. Some specifics from an impressive list of accomplishments during his tenure at Wylie Junior High includes implementation of procedures to ensure federal, state and local compliance, collaborating in PLC’s to develop effective research-based interventions and forming a student-led environmental science club.
Mr. Davis has served as an Assistant Principal in two school districts: Jacksboro ISD and Frisco ISD. Many of his roles in both schools placed him in a leadership position where he coordinated and/or monitored instruction, curriculum resources, PLC coaching, discipline, T-TESS evaluation, master schedule development, 504, TELPAS and STAAR testing, and conflict resolution mediator.
The list of accomplishments Mr. Davis brings with him is impressive. His resume is a testament to the type of leader he is; one who will not only lead, but will work alongside his teachers to truly help his students excel.
Eric is married to Leslie, and they have two sons, Hugo (9) and Freddy (7). Their baby girl, Stevie, is expected to make her appearance in June.
Mr. Davis said, "I am excited to become a part of the Tiger family. It is my great honor and privilege to contribute to the legacy of excellence, tradition, and toughness that Gunter ISD and the Tiger Community have built."
Welcome to Gunter ISD, Mr. Davis and family.
Thank You!

Solar Eclipse
Gunter ISD was in the path of the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, offering a spectacular view for our students. You can tell from the photos that our students loved watching this event together! The cheers when the darkness overtook the sunlight was music to our educator hearts!
This is something our students study in class every year... you might have even seen the Oreo moon phases each year to help the students understand.... BUT... this year, they got to actually SEE it!
Check out our photos of all the fun right here! https://photos.app.goo.gl/48j9Q8ZAPzsSJvnD8 Photos were submitted by teachers and staff. They own the rights to their images.

"Egg"citing Times in 1st Grade
First graders had the opportunity to keep watch over some eggs in their classroom. Each classroom was equipped with an incubator full of eggs and the students watched as the chickens hatched.
Collaborative "Impromptu" Learning
Taking time for a little fun after the STAAR test ...
Officer Meeks and Mrs. Endsley had front row seats to witness some impromptu collaboration going on with our students!
The 3rd and 4th grade students began collecting the fallen branches due to a recent storm and worked together to create a fort! They were so proud of themselves and said, "This was the best recess we ever had!) It was a great experience watching about 20 kids from the two different grade levels work together to create something they were all proud of!
Collaboration and getting along are skills needed for our future work force.
Note: No trees were harmed in the making of their fort!
The 2nd grade teachers are so excited! Check out all of the math manipulatives they received with the Gunter GIFT Grant that they were awarded! Thank you, GIFT!

Outdoor Ed students are spending some time indoors learning the skill of Archery. Check out the concentration level! Coach Applewhite had a line that everyone had to stay behind for safety and then gave great instructions on how to use the bow. The students arrows were all on target, well, somewhere on the target! The safety net that you see hung behind the target area is there to catch stray arrows, but from what we saw today, it wasn't having to catch any. Great job, students!
