October Family Newsletter

Principal's Message
Dear Lowell Families-
As we embrace the beautiful fall season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible community we are building together. October is a time of change and growth, and it’s wonderful to see our students thriving both academically and socially. Our new literacy curriculum is off to a great start, where students are learning the routines of launching this new program. Math continues to be engaging for students, as we are in our second year of implementation with iReady.
This month, we will enjoy the grand opening of our new playground! Thank you so much to everyone that helped to fundraise for the beautiful equipment that has been installed. Our upcoming events, including Trunk-or-Treat and more activities, are being planned by our amazing PTO. Please see below for more information on this. We will also be welcoming parents to Lowell later this month for Parent-Teacher Conferences. These conferences provide excellent opportunities for us to connect and celebrate our students' achievements.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school. Together, we can ensure our children have a successful and enriching school year.
Wishing you all a wonderful October filled with joy and togetherness.
Dr. Laurie Pogorzelski
Principal

We are looking for helpful volunteers! Our "Helping Hands" group helps with classroom events, tasks or projects that our teachers need extra help with. This could be making copies or laminating, helping with a classroom project, going on a field trip or anything else that might come up. By joining this group you will be added to a contact tree that will email you when a need comes up and if you are able to help you respond back letting us know you are available and willing to help. Please note that if you become a part of this group you will need to be a secure volunteer with the district. Playground Update
Our new playground is almost ready for the students to enjoy! As I shared in an earlier message, our Grand Opening will be on Monday, October 7th at 8:50 AM. This week, contractors will be working on the black top surrounding the fenced in area, which means that larger equipment will be on site. Alternate recess plans are being planned for the students during this time. We are fortunate to have lots of green space at Lowell, so children will still be able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.
A recently planned edition to the new playground includes a communication board. The communication board will include frequently used vocabulary in the form of pictures, symbols, and words. The board will allow all students with varying communication skills to access and interact with peers and staff on the playground. We have a team of staff members that are coordinating this effort and we hope to have more information to share with you soon!
We will be having a ribbon cutting on Monday morning, October 7th at 8:50am. This coincides with the start of our day and allows for students to be part of the grand opening prior to instruction beginning. Teachers will also spend time outside with their classes on Monday before using the equipment, in an effort to provide safety information on the use of the climbers, etc. We want to be sure that we keep our students safe while using the exciting new pieces.
