New Albany High School
Family Update - September 8, 2024
Principal's Message
We are committed to continue to build a safe, supportive, and connected school environment. Through the first few weeks of school our staff has been focused on building positive relationships and supporting high levels of student learning by modeling kindness, dignity, and respect. By upholding the values, we collectively create a culture where students have a strong sense of belonging. Everyone involved in our learning community has a responsibility to create a safe, supportive, and connected environment, and we went to thank you for your collaboration.
Rob Russell, Ed.D.
Principal
Academic Support
As we get into the school year, we want you to be aware of our focus to ensure all students are learning at high levels. Teachers are adjusting their instruction to meet the needs of our students on a daily basis. Please see the Academic Support page to better understand our systems and commitment to student learning.
Dress Code
The primary responsibility for school dress and grooming rests with the parents/guardians of our students (Board Policy 5511). We expect that all students dress in a way that is appropriate for the school day or for any school sponsored event. Student dress choices should respect the District’s intent to sustain a community that is inclusive to all students. It is the school’s responsibility to prohibit dress and grooming which are disruptive to the educational process or the health, safety or property of our students.
Students are required to wear their NAPLS Lanyard with their NAPLS ID at all times during school hours on campus. Student photos on NAPLS ID must be visible.
Clothing and jewelry should be appropriate for school.
Shoes must be worn at all times. No footwear that damages school floors will be worn.
No article of clothing may be worn that displays ads or promotions for alcoholic beverages, tobacco or any other drug; or that advocates violence/hate speech or discriminates against any institution, individual, racial, ethnic or cultural group; or that displays inappropriate, offensive or sexual innuendos.
Hats and hoods are not permitted while in the building.
No item of apparel with spikes, metal brads or chains is permitted.
The school administration will make the final decision regarding dress code violations.
Please partner with us and communicate the expectations with your students.
Cell Phones
To support learning in the classroom, the expectation at New Albany High School is that students are not using their cell phones during class periods, including study centers. For students who bring cell phones to class, each classroom has a cell phone storage caddy where the phones must be placed when students enter the classroom. Students may use cell phones between class periods and during lunch periods.
We are asking for your help in communicating these expectations with your children about cell phone use at school.
