Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Koenig
Hello, my name is Charlene Koenig and I'm a new School Counselor here at Goshen Junior High School. I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan but have been here in Indiana for the last 12 years. I have my Bachelor Degree from Spring Arbor University and a Masters in Counselor Education from Western Michigan University. I have been a school counselor now for nine years, I spent my first six years as a middle school counselor and my last three as a high school counselor. I already love GJHS because the people are so welcoming. They make me feel like I've been a part of the school for a long time.
I'm married to Jeff and we have six kids between us, three boys and three girls. The oldest is 37 and the youngest is 19. We also have four grandchildren, two of them are almost 4 and two are 1. We love spending time with our family and friends. My favorite place in the world is the beach, we try to travel there as much as we can. We lived in Florida for a short time and we hope to spend our winters in warm weather someday. I also love to meet new people, sing, and read.
I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Many 8th grade students are working in committees to create the tickets, posters and lists of decorations, food and entertainment.
Tickets will cost $10 and will go on sale Feb. 1 in the cafeteria.
Student committees will help decorate and set on Feb. 18 from 10am to noon.
If you have your volunteer form turned in and you would like to be a dance chaperone, please contact Mrs. Bickel at rbickel@goshenschools.org

Students can only enroll in seventh or eighth grade. In high school they participate in the Scholar Success Program and are connected to programs and resources to help them prepare for college and career success. 8th Grade Project: Bringing History to Life
8th grade ELA students participated in a Holocaust/World War II themed “Gallery Walk,” planned and facilitated by GJH school librarians, in order to build foundational background knowledge and prepare them to complete their narrative assignments. They explored high-interest books, articles, images, and video clips curated to best support their academic goals.
Students were given this prompt: Your class is creating a book of historical fiction stories set during World War II. With your studies, you will become an expert in a particular perspective of your choice from World War II. You will study how an experience shapes a person's identity, therefore shaping their perspective and how they view the world. In your short story, you will take the realities of a person who experienced WWII and turn them into a short story to transfer those experiences to your readers. You have the flexibility to be creative on how to write your story. You can write a short narrative, a series of letters, journal entries, article, etc. Your short stories will be used to teach parents, teachers, and other students about the different perspectives.
