Over 800 poems per grade level are submitted each year. The top 3 from each grade level are selected to be publicly acknowledged and published in an anthology. Pine Tree Middle School rocked it! Way to go, Poetic Pirates!
Middle School is in the middle of the APEX Fundraiser and many are hoping to join in on the color fun wars we are planning next week. We are thankful for the support so we can attend many fun and educational field trips this month.
There are many upcoming events for our outstanding students. This week the 5th grade Model United Nations team will travel to Region 7 for their competition. Our students will enjoy a movie and bowling time in the next two weeks as well.
PARKWAY ELEMENTARY
BIG KAHUNA
Our students enjoyed the Big Kahuna party in the gym during their special’s time with line dancing and bouncy houses. The students that sold more than two boxes were part of the celebration. DJ Debbie provided the amazing music. She spun the tracks while our students danced the time away while waiting for their turn to enjoy the bouncy houses. It was a great for our students.

HIGH SCHOOL
THE END IS IN SIGHT
May is here, and the end of the school year is in sight. Senior Breakfast, Senior Walk and Senior Picnic, as well as Graduation, are on the horizon.
During Senior Skip Day, seniors enjoyed decorating the courtyards with toilet tissue and putting humorous signs for all to see. On Thursday morning they cleaned up the mess before leaving school for Senior Skip Day and fun activities as a class. What made Senior Prank even better is the fact that 20 or so high school teachers dressed in black, brought water guns and surprised the seniors as they were finishing up their decorations. Luckily no injuries were reported, but the seniors got the surprise of their life and left a little wetter than they were when they arrived.
Prom was also a little wetter than people would have liked. A great evening was held a couple of weeks ago for the seniors of 2024, and the only thing that brought the evening down was a constant downpour of rain that started before guests arrived and lasted until the event was over.
Other than that, seniors and their guests danced the night away, made great memories and had excellent snacks thanks to a great prom committee. It was a great way for them to end their high school careers.
Senior Breakfast, Senior Walk and Senior Picnic will occur on May 17 with Graduation set for Thursday, May 23 at 8 p.m. at Pirate Stadium. Nearly 300 seniors will walk the stage and say goodbye to Pine Tree High School.
The final blood drive of the year is being held this week, and high school students will be working field day for Birch Elementary and other campuses to help school employees on those campuses.
AP testing is just around the corner for high school students, and spring football has also started this week for Coach Jason Bachman and the Pine Tree Pirates.
Yearbooks arrive on May 8, and the deadline to purchase a book online has passed. Individuals who want to purchase a yearbook now must bring $80 cash or check to Mr. Collins in Room 612. Books will go fast so, especially, seniors who want a book better hurry to see him.
Choir will have its Pop Show on May 10 in the Pine Tree Theatre. The house will be full as Choir members sing and dance during the two hour show.
School is about three weeks away from ending, but students have a lot to do and a lot to finish. They will be working right up to final exams and graduation to get everything done.
BIRCH ELEMENTARY
Field Trips-Tis the season for field trips. At Birch First we believe learning expands past the classroom. We take learning on the road! Mrs. Halcumb’s class visited Lonesome Dove Safari where the students learned about a variety of animals. First grade visited the Caldwell Zoo where they meandered through the wildlife exhibits. Second grade stopped by Texas Roadhouse to receive a behind the scenes experience of the restaurant before they devoured a tasty lunch. Next week, third grade will visit Jellystone Park and fourth grade will visit Camp Tyler.
At Birch First, our students know that success comes with hard work and respect. The annual STAAR exams are an opportunity for our students to display their acquired skills. Prior to every big exam, our students are celebrated with a school-wide parade where fellow students encourage and cheer on the testers.
Beacon Award Winners-The Birch First Family is proud to announce our two Beacon Award recipients: Mr. Pate and Mrs. Pilcher. Second grade student Isabella Mota wrote about Mr. Pate’s kind heart and constant encouragement to the Birch students. Fourth grade student Lillian Spencer wrote about Mrs. Pilcher being an inspiration not only to her, but also her entire family. We are pleased to have these two amazing Birch leaders recognized for their role in leading our students.
