Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Hi Everyone,
We hope you had a wonderful long weekend. It has been nice transitioning back into the building with another 4-day school week. But next week, will be the true test with five full days. We got this đź’Ş As a way to support us having a great start to our day, one of our awesome Food Service Assistants, Angela, has setup a breakfast cart for students to grab a healthy snack before heading to class.
Our back to school dance is tomorrow night (sponsored by the senior class) and tickets are $10. The dance begins at 7:00 and ends at 9:00 and takes place in our Multipurpose Room.
If any student is interested in joining Mr. Pietrowski and Mr. Thompson they will be offering Open Weight Room sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays @ 2:15-3:15. For more information you can check in with either of them or with Mr. Oliver.
We have our annual Open House next Thursday from 6:00-7:30. This will be an opportunity for you to walk through your student's schedule and meet their teachers and school counselor. We will begin the evening in Pride (where you will pick up your schedule) and will then transition through the evening block by block. We will have maps available as well, in case this is your first time visiting our school (or it's been awhile since you have strolled through the halls).
As always if you have any questions please reach out to Mike, Liza, or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
i-Ready Diagnostic
We are excited to share that we will be using a Mathematics and Reading program called i-Ready, as part of our K-12 initiative to focus on math and literacy growth.
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your student’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. To begin, we’ll be administering the i-Ready Diagnostic for all students grades 9-12 from September 12-13 during extended Prides. Students will need to bring their computer and a pair of headphones (if they do not have either then they can let their Pride leader know). It’s important that students try their best so we can get accurate data that will help inform our instruction and drive the specific lessons students receive.
To help prepare your student for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to try their best on each question, try not to rush, and understand that they will not know the answer to every question.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your student’s learning! To learn more about i-Ready, visit i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
Parking and Drop-Off
If you are a student driver, please park in the large parking lot near the York Community Auditorium entrance. Please remember to drive safely and respectfully while on campus. If you are dropping off your student, please do so in the front loop so your student can enter the building through the main entrance. This will help with traffic flow and make sure everyone gets where they need to be in a timely manner. We know that sometimes dropping off or picking up at the YCA entrance is easier -- but it does impact the flow of drivers and buses on that street, so if at all possible please use the front entrance at those times.
Please make sure to park behind the crosswalk when picking up your student in the afternoon. This will ensure that our YSD vans are able to safely park and pick up their students for transportation.

Announcing York Education Foundation’s First Annual Golf Tournament!
On Sept 12, 2024, the York Education Foundation (YEF) will hold its first annual golf tournament at the venerable York Golf and Tennis Club (YGTC) situated along the picturesque York River. The 18 hole tournament will be played in a scramble format and golfers can register as foursomes or as singles. A chef-prepared lunch (hot off the grill on the course), electric carts and a post-tournament reception are included with registration.
The classic Old Clubhouse will host the reception, which will feature passed hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and a cash bar. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the reception, for which separate tickets are available.
