Spotlight of the Week
Grade 8 students on the split team have been exploring three types of transformations: translations, reflections, and rotations. They are using precise language and accurately drawing these transformations both with and without a grid and coordinate points. Throughout the unit, students shift from informal descriptions to precise mathematical language that identifies specific features of each transformation.
Next, students will draw and label diagrams of sequences of transformations in the coordinate plane. Finally, they will apply the specific features of each transformation to identify the information needed to accurately draw the image of a figure after a sequence of transformations. For each lesson in this section, students have access to their geometry toolkits, as well as tracing paper and straightedges to complete their tasks.
