Next week, May 1st-5th, we will celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week.

Teachers are in this profession to serve children and to change lives every day. They do this by believing in their students and by encouraging them to work hard and dream big. We have fantastic teachers at Fryelands, who make a real difference in our community.

Arbor Day is April 28th

To celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day, students from Mrs. Sager and Mrs. Slater’s 5th grade classes will assist Mayor Geoffrey Thomas and other Monroe officials in the ceremonial planting of an Arbor Day tree at Lake Tye Park on Friday, April 28th at 1:15 p.m. The general location of the tree planting will be on the west side of the lake. Arbor Day is always observed on the last Friday in April. Arbor Day was created to recognize the importance of trees. The most common way people celebrate Arbor Day is to get together in groups to plant trees.

It’s time to register for kindergarten for 2023-2024

All Monroe elementary schools offer all day, every day kindergarten at no cost to families. Students attend from 8:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. State law requires incoming kindergarten students to have received current immunizations by the first day of class and be age 5 by August 31, 2023 to enroll for the 2023-2024 school year.

State Testing is coming in May for Fryelands 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders

Washington students take state and federal tests regularly to assess their learning growth as well as the progress of the educational system as a whole.

Fryelands 2022-2023 SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessment) Testing Schedule

Testing is scheduled for morning hours, with afternoons reserved for students needing more time.

May 17: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Math PT (Performance Task test)

The staff and I value parent input, but please note that we are not able to accommodate your request for a specific teacher. Please do not write a teacher’s name on your input form. Your child’s current teacher, along with our school team, will balance next year’s classes by gender, abilities, behaviors, and many other factors.

Peanuts! Popcorn! Cracker Jacks! Fryelands Elementary students, families and staff are invited to cheer on the Seattle Mariners playing the Houston Astros on Sunday, May 7th at 1:00pm.

We have 40 view (300 level) seats reserved for our Fryelands Falcons Family! Tickets are $10 each. Cash or check made payable to Fryelands PTA.

First come, First served. We expect to sell out. Please order using the form below and return it to the school office as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

Firm Deadline: Monday, 5/1.
You will be notified if you have a ticket and you will receive your ticket via email. If we get a bigger response than expected, we will try to add additional seats but cannot make any promises.

School Library Month is celebrated in April every year. Many school library programs celebrate the month along with National Library Week and National School Librarian Day. Libraries play an important role in our lives, and they have long been considered the main center of children’s learning and development. They are home to plenty of books, archives, and educational resources. Children and adults gather in school libraries to demonstrate their appreciation for books, their “storage,” and the work of librarians, as well as to encourage more young readers to pay a visit to the library.

Ms. Bannon from Park Place Middle School teamed up with Ms. Schott's class for a monster of a project! Ms. Schott's class designed their own ideas of what a monster looks like. They submitted their drawings to the middle school where students then used their sewing skills to create actual stuffy versions of the monster designs. Ms. Bannon visited Ms. Schott's class to present the monsters to each student. The students were so excited to see their creations come to life!

We have partnered with Panorama, an educational research organization, to learn more about our students’ and families’ views of the climate and culture in our schools. We will be using Panorama’s survey tool to gain an understanding of the thoughts and feelings of students in grades 3-12 related to self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, sense of belonging and support, and expectations for their learning. Students in grades 6-12 will also answer questions related to their experiences with cultural and racial diversity in our schools.

Families of our students will also receive a survey that will focus on roles and responsibilities related to school success, perceptions on school climate, student learning behaviors, barriers to student engagement, family efficacy to support student development, family engagement in the school, and school fit.

The Dads of Great Students WATCH D.O.G.S. program is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations designed and developed by educators, experts and parent & guardian volunteers over more than two decades.

Our programs for Elementary and Secondary School campuses help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, we provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction.

Who are Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)?

Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures serve on campus for one day or many each year under the leadership of a program coordinator and under the guidance of a school principal or designated administrator.

If you are interested in signing up for a day, please stop by our office to check out our Watch D.O.G.S. calendar.

Typical school attendance laws have been reinstated, and teachers will be taking attendance daily. If your student is not able to participate, please call the school attendance hotline at (360) 804-3401 and leave us a message or submit and attendance request through family access so that we can excuse your student's absence.
