Emergency Contact Information Updates
Effective communication is critical to the success of St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS). This will be crucial not only for emergencies but for our ability to communicate with families in general. Online Emergency Information Update Forms are now available through the student’s Home Access Center (HAC). Once logged in, directions to access the online form can be found HERE. A video with instructions is available HERE. It is vital that all information is updated in eSchool. The deadline for the online submission of Emergency Information Update forms is October 31st, 2024. Please click here for the Blank Emergency Form. If you have any questions, please contact The Department of Student Services at 301-475-5511 ext.32150.
Back-To-School Night
Wednesday, October 2nd
4 - 5:15 pm
Why Virtual?
We know that you have many after-school commitments and responsibilities.Attendance at this event last year was far lower than expected. By offering this experience in a virtual setting, we hope to be able to reach many more families!
What to Expect
The classroom teacher(s) will connect with you, share information about the instructional program, and share ways that you can stay involved in your child's learning. There will also be time to meet our support staff, like counselors, specialists, special education teachers and administrators.
If you have questions about your child's individual learning needs, academic standing, or school behaviors, please do not hesitate to reach out to our teachers by phone or email. Together you can determine if a parent conference is necessary to support your child's growth.
State Assessment Score Results
The individual score reports include information to help you interpret the results. If you have any questions about this information, please reach out to our Instructional Resource Teacher, Ayanna Foster-Kelson at adfosterkelson@smcps.org or call the school 301-475-0250.
Attendance Matters
Your child's attendance is documented in his/her cumulative record. Frequent partial or full day absences can impact your child's ability to make sufficient progress. Please do not jeopardize academic growth for the convenience of picking up early or sleeping in. If your child is demonstrating school avoidance behaviors, please let the teacher know sooner than later. This is a behavior that needs to be remedied early to prevent the development of hard-to-break habits.
Apple Tree Book Club and Gold Apple Readers
The Apple Tree Book Club is a program to encourage reading through in-school recognition. Here’s how it works:
Your Summer reading and school year reading count toward your total.
Give your Reading Log to your Teacher when you have read at least 10 books.
You MUST have your whole name (first & last) Teacher, grade, book title and number of pages for each book on your Reading Log.
Everyone who reads 10 books receives a pink blossom.
Pre-K and Kindergarten:
Parents may read to their children.
- 25 books=green apple
- 50 books=yellow apple
- 75 books=red apple
- 100 books=gold apple
1st and 2nd Graders:
Twenty-five pages of a chapter book or magazine are considered 1 book.
A 50 page book is considered 2 books.
- 25 books=green apple
- 50 books=yellow apple
- 75 books=red apple
- 100 books=gold apple
3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders:
Books or magazines should be at least 50 pages.
A 100 page chapter book will be considered 2 books.
- 25 books=green apple

Every Gold Apple Reader gets ONE book donated to the school library in his/her name. A child receiving 2 or more Gold Apples will be acknowledged, but only 1 book is donated in their name per school year. You can watch our tree in the hallway grow and grow! You can also follow the progress of each class by looking at the branches outside each of the classroom doors.
