Weekly Recap
What a fantastic week at Indian Hills Middle School! Sixth graders from all our elementary schools explored electives and learned about enrollment.
Highlights of the week:
7th grade Math tackled task cards in group while they compared functions
FACs students made delicious Orange Julius & reviewed kitchen procedures
Art class started Name Graffiti projects
Social Studies celebrated Kansas History Day by creating state mottos.
We are looking forward to conference next week! Conferences are a time for our families to connect with teachers about their student’s learning and achievements in the classroom. Please make sure to review the Spring Conference information below for more details.
Red Cross Fundraiser
IHMS Student Council is running a fundraiser this week for the Red Cross as they work with victims of the California fires. We want to channel our Super Bowl fever into generosity with “Red Kingdom for the Red Cross”. We have set a school goal of $1500 (less than $2 per student) but would love to raise much more than that. You can donate right here by using the QR code below. We will also have this QR code at the student drop-off and pick-up lines, so you can donate as you get your students to and from school.
Chiefs Spirit Week
Here we are again! Join us in celebrating the Chiefs each day next week (no school Friday). Go Chiefs!!
In conjunction with the fundraiser and in preparation for the BIG GAME, we will sponsor Chiefs-themed spirit days for every day in school.
Monday = Mahomes Monday
Tuesday = Training Camp Tuesday (wear workout gear)
Wednesday = Midweek Magic (dress like your fav player OR T Swift!)
Thursday = Throw a Touchdown Thursday (Get out the RED!)

Drop-Off / Pick-Up Procedures UPDATED
Following this week’s morning drop-off, we’d like to remind everyone of the drop-off procedures at Indian Hills Middle School. These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety of our students and families while maintaining smooth traffic flow. Below are the procedures we’ve been following this school year, along with a helpful video we shared earlier in the year.
Buses ONLY
- 8:20-8:45 a.m.
- 3:20-3:55 p.m.
West Lot (63rd St.):
School-issued car tags ONLY
This lot is designated for students with physical needs
South Lot (Delmar):
Primary Car Rider Drop-Off Location
This lot can accommodate more vehicle traffic than the others. Please pull as far forward to the green marker as possible to help reduce congestion. Prairie Village Police will be assisting with traffic flow the rest of this week.
Available for drop-off: 8:05–8:45 a.m.
Available for pick-up: 3:45–4:05 p.m
Important Reminder:
This week, many cars were observed turning left out of the parking lots, which caused traffic delays. To prevent further congestion, please note that no left turns are allowed out of any parking lot between 8:15–9:00 a.m. and 3:40–4:30 p.m.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us ensure a smooth and safe drop-off and pick-up process.

Attendance: Celebrate Your Wins
Celebrating your wins is just as important as showing up to school every single day! When you show up every day, you are not only showing up for yourself, but you are setting yourself up for future success without even knowing it. Sometimes it isn’t easy but challenge yourself to do it. Your future self will thank you.
Make sure you give yourself a pat on the back, give your friend a high five, and put a huge smile on your face because you are doing what it takes to be here, and we appreciate YOU!
Your grade level admin, counselor, teachers, and attendance specialist are all here to provide you with the support you need to be successful!
How do you celebrate your wins?
Instructional Spotlight
7th grade ELA students took on a Mock Trial this week! They presented evidence, prepared rebuttals, and persuaded the jury to side with prosecution or defense. Amazing work by our 7th grade ELA PLC team!
Spring Testing Schedule
Please see the dates in the image for Spring Testing. We would appreciate your support in making sure your student(s) have a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast prior to testing. We will send more information in the weeks prior to testing to help provide clarity and support in the testing process.
Yearbook Order Reminder
For families who haven’t ordered your child’s yearbook, see the information below. There’s a limited quantity so get orders in as soon as possible.
SEIZE THE MOMENT - SAVOR THE MEMORIES
Why order your student a yearbook? Because this is their year. Their school. Their community. Hold on to their history when you buy a yearbook today.
Research & Development Forum: April 22-24, 2025
The Shawnee Mission School District Research and Development Forum is coming this April and there are three ways students, educators, and family members can get ready now. The R&D Forum is a districtwide celebration of student innovation and achievement- featuring a Student Showcase open house and The Next Great Idea pitch competition.
1) 📅Save the dates! The Student Showcase, featuring student projects from across the district, will be held April 22-24, 2025. The Next Great Idea Pitch Competition will be held the morning of April 26, with an awards ceremony in the afternoon.
2) 💡Brainstorm The Next Great Idea Students are encouraged to think of a new product or solution to a problem they can “pitch” to a panel of judges this spring. There is a chance to win prize money to make the idea a reality. Initial Applications are due March 7, 2025. Learn more at this Pitch Info Session at 6 p.m. on January 23 on WebEx! Here’s the link to join.
3) 🖼️ Select Showcase Projects Students, teachers, and families are encouraged to think of projects for students to enter in the Student Showcase. Every student in Shawnee Mission is invited to share experiments, inventions, and project displays at the R&D Forum. This event is a great chance for our whole community to see the innovation and creativity of our students. If you have a project that you are unsure of where it fits as an entry, please complete the interest form on the R&D website. The submission deadline is March 28. Click here for the Research and Development Forum website. We also thank the Regnier Family for their long-standing support of this Shawnee Mission event.
