HAS Weekly Update
September 13, 2024
Dear HAS Community,
We finished our first full week of school. Our elementary students are in a groove and their classes are going great. Our middle school students have mastered their schedules and are doing great making it to class on time.
This week Mrs. Vaccaro, Mrs. Brito, Mr. Petruccelli, Mrs. Siciliano, and I held assemblies with all the students to review important school procedures.
For our elementary meetings we focused on respect, kindness, lunch/recess procedures, and we watched a short video. Click here to view it.
For the middle school meetings we reviewed our electronic device and tardy policy, the dress code, and our EI procedures. You can find these policies below.
Have wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Kevin Deacon
Principal

Counselors' Corner
Dear Parents/ Guardians:
We are pleased to share that Hillside Avenue School is continuing their participation in “Start with Hello Week.” The “Start with Hello” program teaches students the importance of including those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation and to create a culture of acceptance within their classroom, school or youth organization. Each school year Hillside Avenue School becomes a new home to students from all over the state and country and we never want anyone to feel the unease of being “the new kid,” without a helping hand.
We always strive to help our students stay connected to each other, their families, and their own feelings. “Start with Hello Week” enhances the conversation about reaching out to others.
Beginning Monday September 16- Friday September 20th, we will be providing daily announcements and some school-wide, as well as grade based activities which remind students to be inclusive and inviting of others.
Want to join us in spreading the message? We encourage you to talk to your child about the Start With Hello program and ask them to share what they have learned. Not only will that help you learn how to support your child to identify isolation, reach out and stay connected, it also demonstrates to your child that you take this subject seriously and can support them in their actions to create a more connected and inclusive home, classroom, school and community.
We look forward to a great school year, where we can continue to partner with our HAS families on spreading social emotional awareness.
Sincerely,
Stella Siciliano, LCSW, School Counselor
Marina Brito, School Counselor
