Thank you to all the parents who planned and or assisted with our class Valentine's Day parties. The children had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the festivities! We appreciate your time in making this a special day for our students.

For our composting update, students successfully diverted 768 pounds of food waste from landfills and incinerators during the month of January. We are so proud of their efforts!

Schaeffer’s Piano Company, Inc. is once again providing families with an opportunity to purchase a piano at reduced prices. This opportunity is provided twice yearly. This second sales event will take place March 8-16, 2025 at 105 North Stonestreet Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 20850. Sales are by appointment only, and all pianos will carry a 15-year transferable warranty. Each piano will come with a bench and one free in-house tuning. All parents of Grade 2 students, and select students in Grade 3 and Grade 5, received a letter in ParentVUE and in the U.S. mail regarding online completion of the Parent Input Form, which asks your opinion about your student’s strengths. The information you share with us is an important part of the Gifted and Talented identification process and helps us learn more about your student to plan for their instructional program for the upcoming school year. We value your opinion. Please complete and submit the electronic form as soon as possible. You will need to use your student’s MCPS Google log-in credentials to access the form. If you are not able to complete the form online, please contact Katie Kelly (katie_r_kelly@mcpsmd.org) to request support with completing and submitting the electronic form. Thank you.

Online registration for kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year opened on Monday, February 3. Children who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2025 are eligible to register. Registration is online through the ParentVUE portal. For more information about eligibility and the registration process, visit the MCPS Kindergarten Enrollment website or contact our school office.

The 2025-2026 Change of School Assignment (COSA) transfer season opened on Monday, February 3, 2025. The COSA process allows families to submit a request for their children to transfer out of their assigned home school through the ParentVue portal in Synergy. All COSA request applications must be submitted no later than Tuesday, April 1, 2025. For detailed information, please click here.

The February Media Monthly reflects the lessons that all grade levels will continue to have in support of the CKLA curriculum. The Daily News, Music Cafe, and Book Club pages have also been updated to show the most recent news! Please note that we've shifted the dates of some of our events. Here is the updated media events calendar as of today. We now have published our March Book Madness bracket and we encourage our young readers to begin reading the book selections so they can make educated selections when the first two ballots come out March 3 and March 10, respectively. Each will only be open for submissions for five days. See if your readers can guess the guest readers for each title! I am incredibly proud of our first music cafe performers - we had our first performance yesterday and they were as professional as can be.
