Good News
Science teacher and BSU advisor Kesha Barton organized a Black History celebration month that included classrooms transforming their doors to celebrate black excellence, a Black History month spirit week, and hosting guest speakers at the Tuesday, January 25th BSU meeting. Dr. Bryon Douglas, Officer Mia Long and Lt. Corey Mills spoke to a room full of students and teachers about the power of community, the importance of knowing your own history, and the responsibility we have to serve and support each other. To top it all off, attendees shared a delicious meal prepared by Ms. Barton. We appreciate Ms. Barton’s dedication to helping all students celebrate the genius and achievements of Black Americans.
National Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day is Monday, March 3, 2025.
What Is SEL Day?
SEL Day is a global, grassroots campaign for social-emotional learning to support children’s academic recovery, mental health, and well-being. Since its inception in 2020, #SELday has reached over 40 million views. Learn more here: https://selday.org
On this day, schools and communities are encouraged to showcase, promote, advocate, and support SEL. In 2024, over 5,000 SEL champions representing all 50 U.S. states and 73 countries made 6,000 commitments to showcase, promote, advocate, and support SEL. Advocacy efforts have resulted in SEL Day proclamations in ten states, a letter of support from the White House, and a bipartisan resolution for SEL Week introduced in the Senate.

Senior Picnic Volunteers Needed!
As we approach the end of the school year, we are gearing up for the much-anticipated senior activities that will create lasting memories for our graduating class. To ensure these events are truly special, we are seeking enthusiastic parent volunteers to join our planning committee.
Our aim is to make the senior year experience exceptional for our 12th graders and their families. We believe that by working together, we can create moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. We invite parents from grades 9, 10, and 11 to step forward and contribute their time and ideas to make this happen (12th grade parents are welcome too).
By coming together as a community, we can share the responsibilities and alleviate the workload on our 12th grade parents, allowing them to fully enjoy and savor these precious moments with their graduating seniors. Your involvement will not only enhance the experience for all students but also strengthen the sense of community within our school.
Whether you have previous event planning experience or are a first-time volunteer, your unique perspective and skills are valuable. We welcome fresh ideas and diverse input to ensure that our senior activities reflect the richness of our school community.
