NEW ALBANY PRIMARY SCHOOL
February 10, 2025
DEAR PRIMARY FAMILIES,
We hope this message finds you well! It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached 101 days of school but it was fun to celebrate this milestone with our students and see all of the growth and learning that has been taking place. In addition, we spent the last couple of weeks launching our school's new House System and feel a stronger sense of community already! Students who were absent during these selection dates, or those who enrolled after will have an opportunity to spin the wheel at a later date. More information to come! This week, we kick off Kindness Week which culminates in Kindness parties on Thursday, February 13th! We look forward to seeing our students participate in special activities that promote empathy, compassion, and positivity.
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a wonderful place for learning and growth. We appreciate you!
ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS MATERIALS OPEN HOUSES
If you are interested in reviewing instructional materials for K-5 reading and writing to supplement the district’s current use of Heggerty Phonemic Awareness (K-1), Wilson Fundations (K-3) and 95% Word Study (4-5), there will be opportunities in March at all three elementary schools. These sessions are open houses, so you can attend at any time between 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm to look at resources and ask questions. Please choose whichever session best meets your schedule since K-5 materials will be available at all three open houses.
Tuesday, March 4 -- Primary School Main Entrance, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Wednesday, March 5 - Intermediate School First Floor Cafeteria Space, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Thursday, March 6 -- Early Learning Center Main Entrance, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Questions can be directed to Director of Elementary Education Scott Emery at emery.3@napls.us.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR 2025-2026
If you have a child who turns five years old on or before August 1, 2025, it is time to register for kindergarten for next school year. To learn about the registration process, click here. If you would like to guarantee your child is enrolled in the tuition-based all-day kindergarten program, there is an option to submit the tuition deposit by March 5, 2025. To learn more about a guaranteed all-day kindergarten placement for your child, click here. If you currently have a child enrolled in the New Albany Learning Center Preschool Program who will be of age for kindergarten next school year, you will receive registration information directly from the ELC since your child is already enrolled with the New Albany-Plain Local Schools.
COLD WEATHER ATTIRE
As we progress through the cold days of winter, please remember to dress students in warm winter clothing. Students will normally have one recess each day and other times at the teacher’s discretion. Recess will be held indoors when the temperature and wind chill factor register 20 degrees or below, or when very wet weather conditions prevail. Students are permitted to wear winter boots at the primary, but please send a pair of tennis shoes if it is their Wellness week.
Please also remember to label student belongings and encourage students to keep coats and accessories on when playing outside. If labeled items end up in our lost and found, they can be returned!
STUDENT ILLNESS
As the weather changes, cold and flu season comes too! We hope for our Primary students to be at school every day, but there are times when illness requires them to stay home. If you are unsure if your child can attend school, please refer to this page from the district website through Health Services.
If your child must stay home due to illness, please call or email our attendance hotline to report their illness.
(614) 413 - 8100
As a reminder, if your child has any pre-planned absences (family trips, etc), please complete this form and return it to school at least 7 days before the absence.
PTO UPDATE
First and foremost thank you to everyone who made our Family Service Day such a success! Our amazing PTO programming team brought our school community together for a heartwarming Family Service Day!
For the first hour, children and their families worked together to assemble snack bags and hygiene kits for our friends at Healthy New Albany, teaching our kids the power of giving back. We also had a station set up to make Valentine’s Day cards for the residents at Avalon in New Albany. Then, we wrapped up the event with Family Bingo, led by one of our wonderful Principals, Mrs Masters, filling the room with laughter, fun, and a little friendly competition!
A huge THANK YOU to all the families who joined us in making a difference. Your kindness and generosity continue to make our school community stronger.
