Hello Hilltopper Families and Happy Halloween!
It was such fun taking part in all of the harvest festivities this week at Park. Park staff members dressed as characters from Inside Out and the students loved seeing all of us in our costumes. Mother Nature even cooperated for the parade! The harvest classroom parties were fantastic and the students enjoyed delicious treats, festive crafts and fun games. Thanks to PTO and the parent helpers for making the day so memorable for all of us!
Just a reminder there will be conferences beginning next week on November 7th, 14th and 21st. If you have not signed up, please check the link in this newsletter. Conferences provide an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher either in person or virtually regarding their academic and behavioral progress so far this school year. Thanks for keeping the lines of communication open between home and school! I look forward to seeing you next week! Please stop by to say hello!
Have a safe and enjoyable time trick or treating and a fabulous weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Why shop at the Book Fair? Besides the obvious - books, books, and more books! - Park will earn rewards for every purchase! Mrs. Rohrich will then use those rewards to buy more amazing books and materials for our school library!
How do we pay? You can send cash to school with your child (please put in a sealed, labeled bag or envelope), or gift cards are available for purchase on our book fair website, linked above. Literati gift cards do not expire, and can be used online year-round, or rolled over to be used at future book fairs!
How can I help? We need volunteers to help set up and tear down, and people to help students shop. If you're interested in volunteering to help at the Book Fair, please click the link below to sign up!

October Counselor's Corner by Erika Barnett
Park Clinic Corner
PSA: Girl's pants needed (all sizes) like leggings would be awesome!
We are seeing an increase in pneumonia this school year (and you may have been hearing about this in the media, as well.) The clinic's goal in the school setting is to keep kids in school, but also to mitigate/manage illness when illnesses do arise. Here are some helpful tips regarding pneumonia management when it comes to your school-age child. Please call the clinic to speak with Mrs. Park or Mrs. Kolenich if you have any specific questions and thank you for reading this helpful information.
If a child has pneumonia, you should call the school or childcare provider and keep them home until they are well enough to participate in school activities. A child should stay home until they meet the following criteria:
They no longer have a fever for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medicine
They are eating and drinking well
They feel up to going to school
Some symptoms of pneumonia include: Coughing, Fever and chills, Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing, Feeling very tired, and Chest pain.
The length of time a child should stay home depends on the type of pneumonia:
Bacterial pneumonia
A child is contagious for about 48 hours after starting antibiotics and their fever goes away.
Viral pneumonia
A child is contagious as symptoms start to go away, especially fever. The contagious period is commonly 7-10 days.
Fungal pneumonia
Fungal infections are not contagious and are not spread from person to person.
To prevent the spread of disease, you should:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
- Avoid contact with people who are showing signs of illness
- Keep drinking glasses and eating utensils separate from other family members

We have had many students showing up bringing cough drops to drop off in the clinic. Please remember, while it is very helpful to have cough drops kept in the clinic for your child, you must fill out an over the counter order form for these and they need to be delivered by the parent to school. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
