Enrollment Periods - Now Open!
The Open Enrollment Period is Now Open! (Closes February 10th)
27J Schools allows any student to apply to attend any 27J school/program on a space/program available basis. If you wish for your student to attend his/her boundary area school (by primary address), or if your student is currently enrolled at his/her school of choice, there is no need to complete the Application for Open Enrollment-Choice of Schools.
If you have a sibling who is not currently attending Southlawn, a new Open Enrollment application must be submitted for the new student.
All applications must be submitted by February 10th. Each application will be addressed on a space available, first come, first served basis and in accordance with 27J Schools policy and the conditions specified above.
No Dogs Allowed on School Campus
A quick reminder: dogs are not allowed on school grounds when students are on campus due to allergies and the unpredictability of animals. We will be posting signs on the fencing around our campus.
Southlawn acknowledges the important role that pets, dogs in particular, play in our community and the positive impact dogs can have on family life. For many community members, dogs are an important part of the family. A dog can be a joy but they are also a big responsibility. The school also acknowledges the benefits of walking to and from school in a family group with a dog. Recently, however, more dogs are being brought onto school grounds. This has the potential to increase the risk of injury to children caused by dogs (e.g., bites and scratches) through dogs reacting adversely to unexpected noise and/or movement of children or other animals.
Goals:
- Keep the safety of children as the first priority at Southlawn
- For dog owners to carefully consider the risks involved in bringing a dog into an environment where there are lots of young children, some of whom are unfamiliar and/or afraid of dogs.
- For dog owners to carefully consider the necessity and risks of bringing a dog onto the school grounds.
- For dog owners to keep their dogs at home if there is any risk of their dog becoming aggressive at school towards humans or other dogs.
Implementation:
Effective immediately, no dogs will be allowed on Southlawn Elementary’s campus on school days between 7:00 and 4:30. Dogs are only allowed on the school site under the following implementation conditions:
- While participating as part of a formal school activity or event.
- While serving as a certified service or guide dog under ADA guidelines.
- While assisting a peace officer engaged in law enforcement duties.
We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe.
