Hubbard Woods Playground Update

From theSuperintendentHubbard Woods Playground Update

July 19, 2024

Hello and Happy Summer, Hubbard Woods Families,

We hope you are enjoying these summer days, whether your family is at home in Winnetka or you are traveling. Construction and renovation continues at Hubbard Woods and will conclude this fall after two years of work. Upon completion of the construction projects, students and staff will enjoy a newly constructed multi-purpose room, shifting lunch to a dedicated space and allowing the auditorium to be used exclusively for gathering and performing. Air conditioning will also be an exciting new feature in the building beginning this fall. Additionally, we look forward to the unveiling of a completely redesigned playground later this fall. This redesign includes an entirely new “lower” playground moved to the south end of the Hubbard Woods campus, increased green space, a new asphalt footprint for basketball and Kinetic Wellness classes, and a new “upper playground” (made possible by a generous donation from the Hubbard Woods PTO).

While asphalt and concrete installation is taking place during this summer phase of work, the District has been made aware that the synthetic surfaces and equipment installation for the playground will need to continue through September, making it possible for students and staff to safely use the space in its entirety in early October. In the interim, students will continue to utilize Mann Park and have access to a portion of the asphalt on the west side of the building during recess. Students will have access to portable play equipment to ensure that recess is still a fun opportunity to remain active outside during the school day in these first few weeks of the school year. We appreciate your patience as we manage this unexpected delay. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek of the newly designed playground.

We look forward to seeing all of you when we return to school in a few weeks. Until then, enjoy these summer days with your family!

Most Sincerely,

Dr. Kelly Tess, Superintendent of Schools
