Resiliency Art and Literature
Congratulations to the students published in our First Edition of the Yulee Middle School "Resiliency Art and Literature" book. This book is filled with incredible artwork and writing pieces from students, grades 6-8, who used inspiration from our district Resiliency standards. The publishing party was hosted by the Yulee Public Library at FSCJ with Story and Song there to celebrate the book, as they published the book.
Wildlight Elementary
The second-grade team at Wildlight Elementary has unleashed a prehistoric transformation by turning their building and classrooms into a Jurassic Park adventure! The students became "Dino Experts" for the week as they explored and discovered all things dinosaurs in a roar-some environment! The students DUG into text features, "Unlocked the Text," by learning about various dinosaurs with a focus on text features and had some DINO-mite fun measuring in Math. At the end of the week, the students became Paleontologists and did a fossil dig and STEM activity where they had to build a dinosaur skeleton to display at a museum. Assistant Principals Mrs. Ray and Mrs. Chambers and Behavior Specialist Mrs. Hunter surprised the students by dressing up in inflatable dinosaur costumes and visiting every classroom!
Members of the Nassau Education Foundation also stopped by to experience Jurrasic Park. The Education Foundation gifted us a grant to purchase the Jurassic Park materials.
Who needs a time machine when you can bring the ancient world to life at Wildlight Elementary?
Aerospace Technology
Mr. Brosius' Aerospace Technology class had the privilege of meeting Dr. Ken Wolf from AOPA. He flew his plane to Fernandina Beach Airport from Orange Park to talk to YHS students on a Saturday!
Make a Difference Monday
Hilliard Middle-Senior High School Sr Beta students treated the ELA department for Make a Difference Monday in March. It’s Your Lucky Day!
Veteran of Foreign Wars, District 6 Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Hightower from Yulee Middle School for winning 1st place in the 2023-2024 Veteran of Foreign Wars, District 6 Teacher of the Year contest, grades 6-8. Ms. Hightower teaches our Business, CTE, and Career Courses at YMS. We are so proud of her and thankful for all she does for our students and school. Congratulations, Ms. Hightower.
Dress for Success
Ms. Long’s second grade classroom celebrated their success over the 3rd nine weeks. Parents entered a transformed classroom with the theme “dress for success”. Parents were able to watch their students be acknowledged for great grades, good behavior, and showing the Wildlight values of respect, responsibility, and active engagement.
2nd Grade Book Club
Last month for book club, the 2nd grades read Geronimo Stilton: The Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye". During the meeting, we had a lively discussion about the book. The readers enjoyed discussing various details in the book and solving riddles in the story.
Then, students were given the chance to create their own treasure maps, just like the ones used in the book. They used their imagination to design a map with an "x" to show where the treasure would be buried.
Mouse Dissection
The 6th-grade science classes wrapped up their human body unit on Friday with a mouse dissection. Mice are used as animal models to help us understand how the human body works, and students were able to view their organs and identify them firsthand. The 6th-grade science team and the students look forward to this activity every year, and so do the students!
