A Message From Our Principal
Sailor Families,
Exciting times at Bay Harbor…A SNOW DAY!!! This excitement carried over to recess today where there were forts and snow people all over the place. I hope you had a chance to enjoy some of it as well…if you consider shoveling enjoyable. Looks like more opportunities for that are in our near future. Between snowflakes falling, here are some timely updates for you to view:
Golden Apple Update:
Congratulations to all of our Bay Harbor nominated educators for this year’s Golden Apple. Click Here to view the list. From all that are nominated, I need to choose one teacher to move on to the next part of the process. First grade teacher, Joanna Campbell, was chosen to represent Bay Harbor and after submitting her application and being judged on some specific criteria, I am excited to announce that she has been selected as a “Teacher of Distinction” and selected to move on to the final round of Golden Apple judging. This not only says a lot about Mrs. Campbell as a teacher, but her entire team and our school as a whole. Nobody at BH works alone! In the last five years, Bay Harbor has had TWO Golden Apple Winners and THREE Teachers/Teams of Distinction. Pretty impressive!
End of the Quarter and Report Cards
January 19th is already the end of the second quarter. For us, this means nothing more than a defined mid-point in the school year. Our standards always read, “By the end of the school year, the student will know…”. We have a lot of time to keep learning and growing. The mid-point in the year is also an excellent opportunity for students and staff to reflect on their growth and on their goals. Report Cards will be ready to view on January 26th at 6:00pm. A message with a link will be sent at that time. Parent-Student-Teacher conferences will be held on February 27th and 29th. We will again be focusing on these conferences as being “Student-led”. We sent a survey out after the last conferences and received some great feedback that we reviewed and will be making some adjustments. Our continued belief is around student ownership and growing our learners to LEAD their Learning. If you have any major concerns that you would like to talk with the teacher about, be sure to reach out to them in advance and find a time to connect.
We have a lot of really cool things happening and coming up at BH! Stay tuned to our newsletter and classroom communications to learn more.
Have a great week and Happy New Year,
Tony Ebeling, Principal

Howard-Suamico Storm Breakers Pre-Competitive Swim Class
Does your child love to swim? Please consider the Howard-Suamico Storm Breakers (HSSB), the local, competitive club swim team!
There will be a two-week, pre-competitive swim class from March 4-14 (no class on March 7). This class is for prospective new swimmers interested in learning about competitive swimming. Swimmers should be level 3 or higher in swim lessons or should be able to swim the length of the pool without stopping or needing help. If your child is not level 3 or higher, they can be tested on the first day. Instructors will not be in the water with the swimmers.
If interested, please register here. The cost is $30. There are 24 spots available. The class will be held at the Howard-Suamico Community Pool (attached to Lineville Intermediate).
If your child is not able to register, but would still like to try out for HSSB, tryouts will be held on March 15 (time TBD). Any swimmer who does the two week pre-competitive class and would like to join the team does not need to try out.
