The Tuesday Notice
March 11, 2025
The Starfish Class is well underway with their 4th Grade Animal Projects! Last week included a fun and inspiring trip to Wildlife Images and on Friday, the class took some time using a variety of materials provided by Mrs. Cooley to create models of different animals, including a wombat, axolotl, and giant squid (pictured here). Each group worked together to plan, build, and bring their animal to life, learning how to communicate, problem-solve, and support one another in the process. Well done, Starfish Class!

Class 2 - Ms. Aguilar
As we transition into Spring the Second Grade class has been busy in a math block. Using gems, beans, acorns, and more they have begun to tackle subtraction with regrouping. Other new ways to compare and play with numbers have been met with much enthusiasm and gusto! We have completed our first explorations of the complete lowercase cursive alphabet and have begun practicing writing small CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Having covered many essential phonics rules the children have lately been enjoying weekly independent writing time with a journal prompt. These ‘talking pencil’ times always culminate with listening to shared entries from classmates. This class continues to amazing me with their work ethic, artistry, and ability to have fun!
Happy Spring from the Second Grade!
Our community classifieds are posted as a service to our Siskiyou School families and our broader community. If you would like to include something in the classifieds, email your text (a few lines in length) or an image file (png or jpg only), to kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org no later than Monday by 3:00 pm. We may edit it for space purposes. Classifieds are included for two weeks, require a break for a week, and then can be renewed upon request.
Chess Club Session Two Update - Good afternoon everyone. Session Two has brought some big growth in the games of many of the students. They have been increasingly active in the lessons and instruction and also putting the ideas to use more consistently. It's been fun to hear more stories about winning games against siblings, parents, grandparents, etc.
In the lessons, we have been studying more endgame puzzles and patterns; working with tactics such as deflection, forks, queen sacrifices, pins, and skewers; focusing on development (always) and reminding to castle; fear of trading/exchanging pieces; and trying to bring more attention, in general, to both the center of the board, as well as why our opponents might be making the moves they are making.
Session Three will begin after spring break. I will send out those dates in the coming weeks. During that session we will be holding our annual Chess Club Tournament for students who are interested.
Reminder: No Chess Club this Friday. All the focus and attention will be on the Jog-A-Thon. We will return next Friday, March 21st, for the last class before spring break.
Also, for those who haven't paid for Chess Club yet, either in the fall, or Session 1, or Session 2, please get a hold of me - dustin.monda@siskiyouschool.org
Thank you everyone, Dustin Monda.
Support Kamalla's Journey to Healing
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-hearted Strangers,
We are reaching out with heavy hearts to share that Kamalla, Siskiyou School helper and Yoga instructor, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer that has already spread to several areas in January 2025. Kamalla’s strength, love, and unwavering positivity have touched so many lives, and now she urgently needs our support.
How You Can Help:
We’ve created this GoFundMe to help ease Kamalla’s financial burden and allow her to focus on what matters most: her health and her family. Your generous support will help cover:
* Medical expenses not covered by insurance
* Travel costs for treatments/possible surgery
* Medications and specialized care
* Household bills and basic living expenses while she’s unable to work
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, support, prayers, and generosity. Let’s keep her feeling so held, and we will keep you updated on her journey as she continues to heal.
With gratitude and hope,
Elaynna, Nashalah, Keirynn and Shanndara

Find the big yellow bucket next to the recycle bins in the school parking lot and help us fill it up each week.
