Weekly Update February 23, 2024
Strive Center for Autism
No Therapy next Friday, March 1st
There will be no therapy next Friday, March 1st due to Professional Development for our entire team. Therapy will resume on Monday, March 4th.
Some families signed up for an additional "free" day off on Thursday, February 29th while we complete Professional Crisis Management training for our newer staff. If anyone would still like to sign up, please use the Therapy Schedule Update Form and write "free day off" as the reason for your day off. This day will count as an excused absence, as it will make it a little easier for us to free up all the staff who need the training. If your family does not want to take the day off, understand that we will be making a number of substitutions on our schedule, so you may see a different therapist that day. We appreciate your understanding when staff assignments change and would like to remind everyone that handling an unexpected change like a substitute teacher is an important skill that many of our children need to work on.
March is Pet Month!
The theme for March is Pet Month! It's one of our favorite months of the year. We are officially kicking off pet month starting next week even though we know March doesn't start until next Friday. That gives us 5 weeks of pet fun!
During Pet Month, we will have several special visitors in each center. We will ask parents to sign permission slips allowing children to visit with our pets, so please let us know if there are any allergies or other concerns.
The kids will also have an opportunity to "adopt" a pet at the center. We have a variety of little stuffed friends, and each child can choose one to take care of for the month at the center, and then they can take their pet home at the end of the month. We have lots of fun pretending to feed our pets and take them for walks!
If you have a pet who is great with kids, and are available during the day to bring the pet for about an hour for a visit, we would love to have you visit. You can reach out to your BCBA - Jessica, Emily, or Amy, and we'll coordinate things with the Lead Therapists for your visit.
