Healthy Lifestyles with Nurse Ann: đđ»Spooktacular Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween: the one night a year when kids can be anything from a princess to a ghost while raking in enough candy to fuel a small army! Hereâs how to keep it safe and fun (with a sprinkle of humor):
Costume Tips:
Go for light colorsâyour mini Frankenstein needs to be seen! Add some reflective tape for extra glow.
Only buy flame-retardant costumes; we want them to look spooky, not crispy.
Forget the masks; go for face paintâno one wants to be the kid who canât see or breathe.
Remember to put a nametag on them, just in case they decide to pull a Houdini.
Trick-or-Treating 101:
Under 12? Adult supervision is a mustâno solo ghost-hunting allowed!
Older kids should stick together, plan their route, and always keep their phones charged.
Remind them: Only approach houses with lights on and avoid jumping into strangers' cars (or portals to other dimensions).
Flashlights and glow sticks are essential; itâs hard to charm candy out of a dark house!
Post-Haunt Candy Check:
Inspect all treats for tampering, because âmystery candyâ is just a recipe for disaster.
Limit hard candies for little onesâchoking is not a fun Halloween story.
Encourage hand-washing before they dive into their loot; hygiene is still a thing, even on this spooky night!
For Your Trick-or-Treaters:
Clear the path to your door; tripping hazards turn you into the house of horrors for all the wrong reasons.
Consider non-candy treats for kids with allergiesâstickers and crayons can be just as delightful!
And letâs talk about the candy overload: just remember, too much sugar can turn your little ghost into a groaning monster. One minute theyâre happily munching, and the next, theyâre dashing to the bathroom, moaning about a stomachache that could rival a horror movie plot twist. And guess whoâs on speed dial? Thatâs right, the school nurse, whoâs probably ready to hand out antacids with a side of âI told you so!â
So, letâs make sure everyone has a frightfully fun Halloween, minus the actual frights! đ

Thank you for supporting the library with your purchases at the Scholastic Book Fair. We had our biggest sales to date at almost $9,000! I loved seeing all the smiling faces POP into the library. Profits will be used to replace damaged books and update our collection. You can still make online purchases through Oct. 27 by using the Park Meadows link below. You can preorder the new Diary of Wimpy Kid or Dog Man books! The next book fair will be February 10-14, 2025. https://www.scholastic.com/bf/parkmeadowselementaryschool
Battle of the Book congratulations go to Team Risk Takers! Samson, Mark, and Jocelyn worked hard to take home the first battle victory on October 3rd. The second battle will be sometime in January, so keep reading the next 4 books. Battle Talk Breakfasts resume on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-8:44.
Unfortunately, our library collection has already lost 21 books the first nine weeks due to damage. Liquid is the most common culprit right now as leaky water bottles tip easily in backpacks. Accidents happen, but it takes a toll on our collection. I do appreciate how quickly books have been paid for or replaced. As you do some fall cleaning and have books in good condition that arenât being read anymore, consider donating them to the library.
Thank you for bringing the book joy this week!

Good Day Park Meadows Families!
Man, time has gone by so fast! These last few weeks we have been busy with our Bruster's Fundraiser and our Sonic Family Night. I want to say thank you for your amazing support at these last two events. All funds that we get back from our fundraisers goes back to your students through classroom activities and resources and also Park Place, our school store. With your help we were able to receive $304.72 from Bruster's and $730 from Sonic! That is so amazing and could not have happened without you!
I know these next few months are busy so I am going to go ahead and let you know of all of our events coming out. Our last thing for October is Kona Ice on the 22nd during your child's lunch recess. In November we have Raising Canes on the 6th from 4-9PM and the 19th we have Kona Ice during your child's lunch recess. Then is December we have our Goodwill Drive on the 7th from 8-10AM. This is a great time to get your unwanted items out of your house and help our school raise some money. Then our last one of the 2024 school year will by Kona Ice during your child's lunch recess. January we are going to start with an amazing event, our Apex Fun Run! This was a big hit last year and was fun for all of our kiddos.
Until Next Time,
