Hello Sunset Lake Families,

We are so happy to be back together again!

The first week of school was a great one with lots of smiling faces and happy laughter. Our staff has been preparing for the return of our students and we are ready for a great school year!

This week we spent time teaching our school expectations and reviewing leader behaviors in every area of our school. Students did a wonderful job helping us create our expectations and helped teach others the importance of why we have our building leader expectations.

Our Sunset Lake mission : At Sunset Lake we are Lifelong Learners and Lifelong Leaders. We are committed to live our mission each day by bringing a positive attitude to learning new things and always trying to model leader behaviors.

We are in our second year of implementing Leader in Me, the school wide operating system based on 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and are excited about what we are seeing. Our school building has had several beautification projects and our playground is looking great. Students and staff are helping one another use the 7 Habits to help us be the best we can be. This year we will be taking our Leader in Me knowledge to focus on creating WIGS--- Wildly Important Goals. We will help one another track our WIGS and celebrate our accomplishments.

Hello Families,

We thank you for your patience as we get our routines down for student drop off and pick-up. In order to stay within the Village Ordinance of street parking we are needing to re-route our traffic for our pick up time. Please read below and be aware of the changes for our traffic flow at pick-up. For pick up- please remember that school lets out at 3:35 and often the best time to join the pick up line is 3:40 when our students are coming out and traffic is flowing.

Drop-Off:

Our drop off window will begin at 8:35

Cars are to enter at our north entrance off of Boulevard

Cars are to enter at the north entrance and follow along the outer edge of the lot

Cars stop at the designated Student Drop Off Zone shown on the map (These are NOT parking spaces--rather designated zones for cars to stop and allow their child to exit curb-side)

Students are to ALWAYS exit curb-side

We ask everyone to take advantage of the drop off system

If you need to park, please utilize the parking spaces in our parking lot.

Please be sure to escort your child and use the designated walkway located at the drop off zone.

REMINDER: There is no parking in front of our building, or on adjacent roads.

Pick-Up: (This is a bigger change--please read carefully. Yellow signs have been posted)

School ends at 3:35

Traffic flow is as follows:

Cars travel west on Prairie St. and turn right onto 4th St.

Cars on 4th St head to the Little League Fields and take Wellhouse Dr.

Follow Wellhouse Dr. around to N. Boulevard and take a right on N. Boulevard (Village Police will be available to assist at this point)

Cars enter Sunset Lake parking lot’s north entrance and follow along the outer edge of the lot

Cars are to stop at the designated Student Drop Off Zone

REMAIN in your cars and your child will be released to you

We ask families picking up their child(ren) use the provided Car Tags

Car tags hang from your rearview mirror with your child’s last name written (LARGE) and facing out the window

A staff member will radio for your child and they will be dismissed directly to your cars

Cars exit through the south lot and will take a right onto N. Boulevard

Sunset Lake will continue to work on improving our system with office referrals. We have continued our subscription with SWIS-School Wide Information System, that is our data warehouse for us to track and review our student incidents during each school day. Last year we changed from a detention form to a new record called Office Referral Form. This form is on a full pink page and has more items on it to track time, location and possible causes as well as the type of incident. If a child goes home with an Office Referral Form it needs to be signed by a parent and sent back the next day. Over the summer months the district worked to update our Student Code of Conduct to better match the current school regulations and student positive behavior philosophy. Our Student Code of Conduct can be found on our website. If you would like a hard copy of our Student Code of Conduct, please contact our office at 321-1550.
