Week In Review and A Look Ahead
January 3, 2025
Notes from the Principal
Welcome to 2025! I hope you had a pleasant break and families were able to avoid the viruses/colds that hit many in our community. Now would be a good time to review guidance from our district nurses regarding illness absences that can be found HERE.
Additionally, with the potential for snow on Monday, please recall that we do not have any "Snow Days" built into our calendar, but instead, we will have Flexibile Instruction Days (FID) if we are closed. Teachers and school personnel will be accessible by email from 10AM-2PM and students will have instructional activities, videos, and other resources shared with them in Google Classrooms. Further information on FID days can be found HERE.
2-Hour Delay Schedule
Winter Semi-Formal Dance
Student Council and TSA are hosting the semi-formal dance “A Night in New York City” on Friday, January 10th. The dance will be at MSE from 7-9 PM. The cost of the dance is $5. The dance is for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 and tickets will be sold during lunches on January 8, 9, and 10.
We will be following a special, more formal, dress code for this dance. Students may not wear jeans, sweatpants, or athletic pants/shorts. The dress code options are as follows:
- A collared shirt with dress pants or khakis. Ties are optional.
- A dress, dress pants and blouse, or skirt and blouse. Dresses may have spaghetti straps, halter straps, or a single strap. Dresses may not be open-back or have any bare midriff or side cut-outs. All dresses/skirts must be the required length according to the district dress code.
- Students may wear dress shoes, flats, or sneakers.
December Star Students
Congratulations to the following 6th and 7th graders who were selected as "Star Students" for the month of December from their team teachers. Way to go!
6th Grade Kindness Award
The 6th grade teams are recognizing students that go above and beyond to show Kindness. On the bulletin board next to the speech classroom in the 6th grade hallway, is a display containing pictures of 6th graders caught being kind. When a teacher sees a student go out of their way to show kindness, they will receive a certificate to take home and have their picture displayed on the bulletin board. If you see a sticker on a student’s picture, it means that student has been recognized more than once. Remember, “Kindness is free to give, but priceless to receive.”
December Kindness Award winners are:
Carter Colon
Dennis Reitnauer Jr.
McKenzie Treichler

Middle School East 50th Anniversary Open House
We are hard at work planning a special celebration for our community this spring. MSE has been a great place to be for 50 years and we will be recognizing our school, students, and staff with an Open House celebration in April. Stay tuned as more details are finalized for this evening community event.
We want to hear from our JHE/MSE "graduates" and will be showing a "Where Are You Now?" display at the Open House. We would love to hear from our former Easties. Please take a minute and fill out the quick questionnaire HERE for us to use at our Open House. Spread the word (and link) to your former classmates!
Library Fundraiser
Brakeman's Cafe is offering a specialty drink called the li-BEAR-ian latte! 🐻 This delightful cold brew features chocolate drizzle, brown sugar, and honey, and for each drink sold, a dollar will benefit the Boyertown middle school libraries.
Customers will have the chance to vote for either the East or West library with their purchase. Mrs. Mento is planning to use the funds to buy more Rubik's Cubes for the East library, while the West library will be acquiring Legos. This collaboration is a wonderful way for us to build community within our school libraries. Thanks to Brakeman’s generosity last year, we were able to create larger and more complex Rubik’s Cube mosaics.
If you're interested, Brakeman’s Cafe is located at 56 S. Washington Street in Boyertown and is open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Vote East!
