Our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to Onyx, a source of comfort and a member of our SMS family. Onyx, our SMS therapy dog, has left paw prints on our hearts that will never fade.
For the past few years, Onyx has been a presence in the hallways and classrooms of both the old and new buildings. Onyx brought so much joy and healing to everyone who crossed her path. Whether it was a bad day, a moment of anxiety, or simply a need for companionship, Onyx was there—patient, gentle, and ready to listen in a way that only a dog can.
Onyx taught us the importance of kindness, the healing power of silence, and the joy of simply being present with one another. For every student who found comfort in her fur, for every teacher who shared a quiet moment during a hectic day, and for every person who walked through the halls and smiled at the sight of Onyx—you made a difference.
As we mourn the loss of our Onyx, we also celebrate the countless lives she touched. In the days ahead, when we feel the weight of her absence, we’ll remember the light she brought into SMS and the calm she instilled in all of us. Rest in peace, sweet Onyx. You will forever be in our hearts.
