August 9, 2024 - Principal's Message
With the summer coming to a close, I hope you have had a chance to enjoy time with your family and soak in the awesome weather we’ve had for the last couple of months. We will be back in the building very soon and I’m excited to see students in the hallways again. As we roll through the month of August, there are some important reminders I wanted to share with families as well as some important events that are taking place at NRAC and in our community before the school year officially begins. Lastly, please take a few minutes to read our welcome back letter linked HERE

NRAC "New to District" Student Orientation

This event will begin with introductions from office staff members in the cafeteria which will be followed by a tour of the building. Teachers will not be in attendance and no supplies can be dropped off. The goal will be to help familiarize students with our building and educational model, and see studios, lab space, library, cafeteria, restrooms and offices.
For incoming 3rd graders who are not new to the district, if you missed the parent orientation at the end of last school year please click HERE to view the video and presentation from the orientation night.
Please reach out to Mrs. Heilmann, our 3-4 Associate Principal, if you have questions.

Nursing Services
The Ohio Department of Health updated the immunization requirements for students entering the 7th grade in the fall of 2016. All Ohio students entering the 7th grade must have a Tdap booster and Meningococcal vaccine before a student enters the seventh grade to protect children from preventable diseases. These immunizations are required by Section 3313.671 and 3701.13 of the Ohio Revised Code.
It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to see that their child(ren) is properly inoculated and that the school has a complete copy of your child’s immunization records. These immunizations can be received from your private physician or at various clinics in Lorain County. You can also complete a signed immunization exemption form. Click HERE to read our parent letter explaining the options.
Our exclusion from school date this year is September 12th, 2024. Documentation for immunizations must be received by this date. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact nursing services.
Medication Drop Off will also be held at NRAC from 5pm - 8:30 pm.
Please click HERE to read the August 2024 Nursing Services Newsletter.

NRAC Dress Code
As students prepare to come back to school with new clothes to start the school year, it's important to review the dress code. Below is the dress code for NRAC grade 3-8. This information can be found on pages 28-29 of the parent/student handbook.
General Dress Code Regulations for ALL Grades
- Apparel, jewelry or other accessories that graphically or symbolically promote or imply profanity, sex, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, violence, hate language or weapons are not permitted.
- Shorts or skirts should fit properly and reasonably around the waist and should provide coverage to the thigh. Short shorts or mini-skirts are not permitted.
- Sagging or dragging pants are not permitted.
- No underwear should be exposed.
- Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times
- Clothing should be constructed and worn in such a manner that is not unduly revealing.
- Student apparel regulations apply to all in and out of school activities (Field trips, PE classes, etc.).
- Administration reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of student dress and grooming.
- Students may be asked to change unacceptable clothing or grooming and parents may be called to bring suitable attire if no alternative attire can be found. If a student is sent home for a dress code violation it will be considered an unexcused absence.
- The decision of the administration is final.
Additional Dress Code Regulations for Grades Pre-K through 4
The following are specific dress regulations for students in grades Pre-K to 4:
- Dress appropriately for prevailing weather conditions as students may be outside for recess.
- No flip-flops; no “Heelies” (wheeled shoes), Sandals and Crocs with back straps are permitted
- If your child wears snow boots to school please send them with a pair of shoes to wear in the building
Additional Dress Code Regulations for Grades 5-8
The following are specific dress code regulations for students in grades 5-8:
- Low cut waistbands are not permitted
- Tight fitting pants, yoga pants, leggings, jeggings, skinny jeans, spandex, etc. may be worn so long as the shirt, blouse, top extend below fingertip length from all sides when the student’s arms are at their side

- No wallet chains
- Flip flops and “Heelies” (roller shoes) are not permitted
- Coats, jackets and similar apparel are not to be worn during school hours
- No pajama pants, slippers or blankets are permitted unless approved for a school spirit day
Student Attendance
Please review the student handbook regarding student attendance linked HERE. Pages 29-32 specifically highlight absence information and provide a comprehensive list of absence reasons that are acceptable for reporting. Students who are called off for a vacation during the school year WILL NOT be excused. Vacations are not excused absences. If the school is notified in advance of such a trip, reasonable efforts are made to prepare a general list of assignments for the student to do while he/she is absent but parents should not expect the teacher to re-teach material that is missed due to the vacation.
New this year is the ability to text our attendance line if your child is going to be absent. If you text our absence line to report an absence, you must include the child's name and grade level, the parent/contact name and the reason for the absence. If the parent/contact name doesn't match the student's contact information in Powerschool or the absence reason doesn't match our handbook, the absence will not be excused. If you have questions about this feature, please reach out to our office secretaries.
Football Game Day Expectations
Friday Night Football is quickly approaching so I wanted to share the Football Game Day Expectations with our families and students to prepare for the games. Please click HERE to view those expectations. Our goal is to foster an environment where our NRAC students are cheering and supporting our teams in a positive and welcoming environment.
Stop It App
The STOPit App is a perfect way for students to report bullying or anonymously report information to administrators that could be harmful to students and staff members in our school. While reporting this information to an administrator or parent is the best option, using the STOPit app allows students to report information to us from anywhere and anytime. Please click HERE for more information.
