A message from your principal
Hi Team Logan,
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break. As we enter the month of May, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students continue with the MCAP state testing. Each grade level has now completed the ELA sections, and we are incredibly proud of the perseverance and effort our students are showing as they "show what they know." Please continue to encourage your child throughout this testing season and refer to last month’s bulletin for helpful tips on how you can support at home.
While the end of the school year is in sight, our students still have a great deal of important learning ahead. They are continuing to develop critical skills in reading, writing, math, and content areas that will prepare them for success in their next grade level. Daily, on-time attendance plays a significant role in ensuring they master these essential skills.
We ask for your support in making attendance a priority. We continue to experience a high number of late arrivals and early dismissals. Please remember that if your child needs to be signed out early, this must be done by 3:40 PM. After that time, we begin our end-of-day dismissal process, and early sign-outs can cause disruptions and safety concerns. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our dismissal safe and smooth.
As always, we encourage our students to live out the values of our school promise: Respect, Empathy, Acceptance, and Love. These are the cornerstones of our House Culture. Lately, we've seen an increase in students making poor choices, so your reinforcement at home is more important than ever. Please talk with your child about how they are practicing these virtues at school and ways they can apply them in daily life.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and we are excited to celebrate our incredible staff. Our teachers work tirelessly to provide the best education possible and go above and beyond every single day. Ms. Wrightson and I are so grateful for their dedication to Team Logan. We encourage you to take a moment next week to say a heartfelt "Thank You" to our wonderful teachers and staff.
Lastly, please note the important upcoming dates:
- Friday, May 16th – 3-Hour Early Dismissal
- Monday, May 26th – Memorial Day and No School
- Friday, June 13 – 3-Hour Early Dismissal
- Monday, June 16 – Last Day of School and 3-Hour Early Dismissal
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making Team Logan one of the best schools in Baltimore County.
Main Office Minutes 🌸🌺🌷
Please make sure you take the time to keep your students contact information and address up to date, stop in the office or call us and we will take care of the rest. Also please keep in mind that arrival and dismissal times are very busy for the main office. We ask that you be mindful when planning a trip to the office to handle student related matters. In addition, if you are planning to pick your student up for early dismissal please do so before 3:40pm. Students are still involved in instruction until 3:50pm and our goal is to lessen the distraction.
We would like to express our appreciation for all the families that attended our Pre-k & Kindergarten round up. If you missed out no worries, there will be another registration session on May 20, 2025. Please reach out to the front office (ph#443-809-7052) to coordinate your visit.
Community Center Business
From the Community School Facilitator:
Did you know that Logan Elementary has a community center? It is in the back of the building in trailer #4. If you are in need of food, cleaning supplies, books, clothing, or toiletries, please stop and see Mr. Little (Community School Facilitator). Also, we have been working with parents on job applications. Everything is completely confidential. We are extremely excited and proud of the work we do with our students, families, and our wonderful community.

Fun Outdoor Literacy Activities for Spring
We all need a little fresh air. Not only is being outside good for our health, but it is also all good for our learning. Yes, you can learn about the alphabet, writing, phonological awareness, and more in the great outdoors with these literacy activities.
Outdoor literacy activities at home can be engaging and fun ways to encourage reading, writing, and vocabulary development. Activities like scavenger hunts, alphabet hunts, and nature walks can all be adapted for the great outdoors, providing a fresh perspective for learning.
Here are some specific ideas:
1. Scavenger Hunts: Create a list of items for kids to find and collect or photograph. You can use nature-based items like leaves, rocks, and feathers or even things like clouds that look like animals.
2. Alphabet Hunts: Have children find items that represent letters of the alphabet, either by shape or by the first letter of the object's name.
3. Nature Walks: Take a walk and talk about the natural world, using descriptive language and pointing out different features of the environment.
4. Storytime in Nature: Read a story about the outdoors and then engage in related activities like acting out scenes or making up new parts of the story.
5. Creative Writing: Use the outdoors as a source of inspiration for writing, such as describing a scene, writing a poem about a specific tree, or creating a story based on what you see.
6. Hopscotch: Draw hopscotch on the pavement and play a version with letters or words.
7. Story Stones: Collect stones, decorate them with images, and use them to inspire storytelling.
8. Sensory Bins: Fill a bin with natural materials like leaves, stones, or sand and use it for letter recognition or phonics activities.
9. Chalk Phonics: Draw a chalk ladder and have children write words on each step, then read them as they hop up or down the ladder.
10. Nature Letters: Have children create letters of the alphabet using natural materials like sticks, stones, and leaves.
11. Role-Playing: Act out a favorite poem or song, using the natural environment as a backdrop.
12. Nature's Gallery: Use cardboard frames to focus on specific parts of the environment and have children describe what they see within the frame.
13. Feely Bag/Box: Place various natural objects in a bag or box and have children identify them by touch and other senses.
These activities can be adapted to different age groups and skill levels, making them a versatile way to encourage literacy development outdoors
Nurse Nook
A Note from the School Nurse
As we head into May, I wanted to share a few updates from the health office!
We recently wrapped up several important programs here at school. Our Dental Sealant Program was a great success — thank you to all the families who participated! We also completed our Vision and Hearing Screenings. Please be on the lookout for paperwork coming home — some students may need follow-up with their healthcare providers based on the screening results. Our Mobile Dentist program is finishing up soon as well, providing convenient dental care right here at school. We hope to continue this program moving forward, with the goal of having the Mobile Dentist visit every six months to help support our students' dental health.
May is also Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. This is a great time to review your child’s asthma and allergy care plans. Preventative medications are key to helping students stay healthy and active. It’s also very important that students who use a rescue inhaler or EpiPen have one available at school to avoid any delays in care during an emergency. If your child has a rescue inhaler or EpiPen at home but not one at school, please reach out — we would love to work with you to make sure they are fully supported during the school day.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn!

Welcome to May in Pre-K!
Spring is in full swing, and we’re excited to be diving into our "Growing a Garden" unit! This month, we’re exploring the life cycles of plants and animals. The children have been busy planting lima beans and flowers, and we’re thrilled to have live caterpillars in the classroom—soon we’ll observe them transform into butterflies!
We’re also beginning to prepare for our end-of-year picnic on June 10th, where the children will sing a few special songs outside the classroom. We hope you’ll be able to join us for this joyful celebration!
Please check your child’s folder for important details and reminders about the upcoming Moving Up Ceremony.
As the weather warms up, we’re spending more time outdoors. Don’t forget to send your child in play clothes and closed-toed shoes each day so he/she can move and explore comfortably.
We’re looking forward to a fun and memorable month ahead!

A lot of exciting things are happening soon to end our Kindergarten year! Our Kindergarten Ceremony will be on June 12th and our picnic will be right after the ceremony. Look out for a Save The Date and invitation coming soon! While exciting things are near, we are still learning new things. In module 8 of reading, we are learning about growing plants and what they need to survive. In math we are counting tens and ones and starting story problems! Please continue to read at home and make sure devices come back to school charged every day! Have a great May! 😊

1st Grade
Hello families!
We’ve been working hard in first grade and are so proud of the growth we’re seeing every day! In math, we’ve been practicing skip counting and learning how to add and subtract two-digit numbers. Our students are becoming confident and capable mathematicians!
In reading, we’ve been exploring different types of stories, like fables, and discussing the lessons they can teach us. We’re getting ready to begin Module 9, which is all about plants that grow—an exciting and timely topic as we head into spring.
Here are a few important reminders as we move into this busy time of year:
Our field trip to Goucher College is on May 6th! We are very excited to spend the day enjoying live theatre with your scholars.
Please make sure your child brings a fully charged computer to school every day. This helps us get the most out of our learning time.
As we approach the end of the school year, there will be many exciting events and activities. It’s important to check your child’s folder daily for important papers and updates.
Also, please stay connected by checking messages on TalkingPoints or ClassDojo from your child’s teacher for reminders and classroom news.
With the warmer weather, we’ll be spending more time outside for recess. Make sure your child wears appropriate shoes for running and playing safely on the playground.
Thank you for your continued support at home. We are looking forward to a fun and memorable finish to the school year!
Warmly,
The First Grade Team
2nd Grade
Hi second grade parents! We hope this finds you well. In reading this module, students are learning about the different habitats as well as how animals and plants depend on each other for survival. Students will explore various animal exhibits and learn about each habitat. In math, students are exploring fractions and partitioning them into equal parts, as well as exploring different types of measurement. With the end of the school year is coming quickly, please be on the lookout for fun events happening soon!
3rd Grade
Hi third grade families! We can't believe the end of the school year is already here! We will have our 3rd grade picnic on June 4th from 11-1 on the intermediate playground. Feel free to bring blankets or chairs to sit on. We are also still MCAP testing into May. We will be math MCAP testing 5/13, 5/14, 5/23, and 5/27. Please make sure students are getting enough sleep and bringing a charged device to school. We are pumping them up at school, so please try to give some words of encouragement to students so that they remember they can do it!
In reading, we are currently reading texts about food and how the food gets to our table. We are reviewing reading skills we have practiced so far this school year. We are also working on writing poems about our favorite season. In math, we are practicing multiplying larger, two-digit numbers as well as extending our understanding of fractions. We look forward to spending the rest of the school year with your students!
4th Grade
Dear Fourth-Grade Families,
Happy May! It is hard to believe how quickly this school year has flown by. It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming our students into fourth grade, and now we are beginning to celebrate all the wonderful growth and accomplishments they have made.
We have a busy and exciting month ahead! Here are some important dates and reminders to keep in mind:
- Friday, May 2nd: We will be taking a field trip to UMBC. This trip is for students only. We cannot wait for our students to experience all the exciting activities planned!
- Monday, May 5th: Our second field trip will be to the Maryland Zoo! Chaperones and volunteers who have completed the required training are welcome to join us. Thank you for helping make these experiences possible for our students.
In addition to our field trips, fourth grade will be taking the Math portion of the MCAP assessment this month. Students will testy May 8 & 9 and May 21 & 22. Your support in making sure your child is well-rested, arrives on time, and brings a fully charged laptop each day makes a big difference. Thank you for partnering with us during this important time!
Looking ahead, we are excited to share that we are planning to hold our end-of-year picnic on the morning of Friday, June 6th. We will send out more information as the date gets closer.
Please continue to check your child's backpack for flyers and updates throughout the month. There are many exciting celebrations and important events still to come, and we want to make sure you have all the information you need.
Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and partnership. This year has been a special one, and we are so grateful to have such an amazing group of students and families in our fourth-grade community.
With appreciation,
The Fourth-Grade Team
5th Grade
Dear 5th Grade Parents and Guardians,

Adequate rest is crucial for students to perform at their best.
As the school year comes to a close, we encourage students to reflect on their academic growth as they transition to middle school. Let’s finish the year strong!
