Wickliffe Family Update

Dear Wickliffe Families,

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful snowy Sunday! This past week at Wickliffe was filled with joy and connection as we hosted our Kindergarten Information Night and celebrated Valentine's Day with our classes. Welcoming prospective families is always a wonderful opportunity for our school community to showcase who we are and what it truly means to be part of the Wickliffe family. Our school is grounded in community, compassion, and civility, and we are reminded daily how fortunate we are to educate and support the students of the future. Thank you for your ongoing support of our teaching team!

Looking ahead, we have some exciting events this week. On Tuesday, Feb. 18th, Mrs. Giles’ class will be hosting Town Meeting at 8:30 AM, and that evening, we invite you to join us for Math Family Game Night anytime between 5:00–7:30 PM. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with your child through fun and engaging math games—we hope to see many families there!

Additionally, families can now sign up for spring break groceries through the Tri-Village Packers program. This community-led effort ensures that support is available for those in need. A flyer was sent home with every student earlier this week—please see more details in the District section below.

Wickliffe will host its second annual Family Math Game Night Open House on Tuesday, February 18th from 5:00-7:30 pm. Please bring a refillable water bottle.

You can come for the whole time or just come to learn one game. Parents will travel with their children to learn a new game they can easily play at home with a few household items like dice or playing cards. Collect the directions for these games as you visit different game stations. Don't forget to guess how many candies are in the jar at our Estimation Station!

All students enrolled in the Upper Arlington school district are assigned to the school providing the regular or special education program serving their attendance area. Students wishing to attend a different school must complete and submit an intra-district enrollment request form. The application form is available online or upon request in the Registration Office located at the Upper Arlington Schools Mincy Center, 1619 Zollinger Road, as well as the office of the principal in each of the schools.

Applications must be completed by the parent(s)/guardian(s) and submitted to the Registration Office located at the Upper Arlington Schools Mincy Center between February 15 and April 15 to ensure timely consideration for the following school year.

I am so excited to be through (almost) a very cold January and on to February! This month's lessons will focus on Diversity and Celebrating our Differences in 2nd-5th grade. Every month during the school year, Wickliffe PTO partners with different restaurants in our area to benefit from their dine and donate programs to raise money for our school. The restaurants donate a percentage of the proceeds from your order when your show them the fundraiser flier. It is an easy and delicious way to support our school! Order online using code: BE7CWMK. Wickliffe Wolves Around The World is a free event to taste, experience, and celebrate the diversity that brings such joy to our school community! This year's event will be held 3/13/25 6:00 - 8:00 pm and is open to all families and extended families! Please consider sharing some of your family's traditions and history in this fun celebration by signing up here. If you would like to participate and are wondering how, or if cost is prohibitive, please email Laura at laura6747@gmail.com as funding is (limited) available.

Requests for testing for the purpose of qualifying students for gifted services in the 2024-2025 school year must be received by March 1, 2025.

Upper Arlington Schools will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Assessment in March 2025 for students in grades 2-5 who are referred for gifted identification testing (gr. 3 & 5) or retesting (gr. 2 & 4).

If you would like to refer your child for the March 2025 CogAT and/or Iowa Assessment, please complete this Google Form by February 21, 2025. If you are unable to complete the form, please email Gifted Education Coordinator Shannon Gagel at sgagel@uaschools.org.

Ramadan will begin on February 28 and last through March 29 this year. We understand that some aspects of the regular school day are more challenging for students who are fasting in observance of Ramadan. Please contact Kaitlyn Karam to discuss support for your student during this time.

• If your child will be absent from school, please email wickliffeattendance@uaschools.org. Please state a reason for your child’s absence. If you are emailing your child’s teacher regarding attendance, simply copy the attendance email - no need to send separate emails.

• Please obtain a medical excuse for ANY visit to a doctor, dentist, therapist, etc that occurs during a school day.

Planned Absence Form - Forms should be completed 10 school days in advance of the first date of the planned absence whenever possible. Otherwise, the absence may be unexcused.

Nurse Notes

Any prescription medication administered at school requires written authorization from the student’s physician as well as written parental permission. Per Ohio Revised Code, the Prescribed Medication must be received by the health office in the container in which it was dispensed by the provider or pharmacist (we cannot accept medication in baggies). Medication authorization forms and other health forms can be found on the district website at: UA Health Forms. Should you have any questions, please contact the Wickliffe Health Office at 614-487-5150.

Our health clinics track communicable illnesses and work with local public health agencies to mitigate potential outbreaks. If your student is diagnosed with or treated for a communicable illness/condition (strep, pinkeye, influenza, COVID-19, lice, etc.), please report those to the school nurse at wickliffehealthclinic@uaschools.org, or wickliffeattendance@uaschools.org. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure Wickliffe is a healthy learning environment for all of our students!
