Madrona Monthly Newsletter
October 1, 2024
Greetings Madrona Community!
This week, our fall activities begin. We will have three Girl Scout Troops meeting at Madrona this year (Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors). This club will meet on the first Tuesday of every month from 2:30 - 4:00 pm. Students will be dismissed from the front door until our Fall sports begin.
Later this month, our SCORES Soccer/Poetry team and Girls on the Run will start. These afterschool clubs will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 - 4:00 pm. Ms. King and Mr. Werth will send out more information about these clubs soon. As we add more clubs and activities for our students, we will let you know. For now, we are extremely excited about the enrichment opportunities that will be happening in our community.
On Thursday, October 10th, we are hosting our annual Curriculum Night from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Our doors will open at 5:15 pm and dinner will be served at 5:30 pm. Please plan to enter through the playground gate for this event. Our Magnificent Madrona Student Representatives will be available to welcome you, help you sign in, and guide you to the cafeteria for our program. Please note, students are welcome to attend this event, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Hope to see everyone there!
Picture day this year is on October 21st! Please note, these are individual pictures, and it will be a FREE DRESS DAY for all students. 😄
As a celebration for our community, we planned a spirit week for the last week of the month. We will send home more information about this week and how your student(s) can show their school spirit. Just as a reminder, please don't go out and buy special outfits for our spirit days. Instead, we would like our students to use their creative minds to come up with an outfit.
Please read the rest of our newsletter to find out what is happening in our great community.
Take Care and hope to see everyone at Curriculum Night.

Schoolwide Reminders
School Arrival Information
- Our office opens at 7:30 am daily.
- At 7:35 am, we will open the playground gates for students. During this time, our students can eat breakfast, walk the playground, or stand in line to wait for their teacher.
- At 7:50 am, teachers greet students and walk their students into the building.
- At 7:55 am, school officially starts. We will close our playground gate. Students who arrive after this time will need to check in with the office before going to class.
School Dismissal Information
Our students will continue to exit from different locations on our campus:
- Kindergarten: Will be dismissed from their classroom doors; NW side of the building along 32nd Avenue.
- Grades 1st - 3rd grade: Will be dismissed by class from the playground. They will exit through the playground gate, along 32nd Avenue.
- Grades 4th - 5th grade: Will be dismissed from the SE side of the building along 33rd Avenue.
Dismissal policy
If your scholar has an early dismissal, please pick up your child prior to the last 30 minutes of the school day. We are implementing this policy because it is extremely difficult to navigate the number of early dismissal requests we've receive during this time.
How you can help:
- Please stand on the outside of the cones next to the playground gate.
- Please communicate with your student who will be picking them up prior to the end of the school day.
- Please make sure you are on time to pick up your student. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, school will be dismissed at 2:25 pm. On Wednesdays, school will be dismissed at 1:10 pm.
Madrona is a Uniform School
Madrona is a uniform school. Our students are encouraged to wear light blue, dark blue, and black shirts and khaki bottoms. We have a surplus of gently used uniforms in our storage closet. Please reach out to our office if you'd like to obtain some uniforms for your student.
Thank you
National Walk to School Day
Don't forget!!!! Madrona is participating in the National Walk to school day on October 9th. All participants will be given a reflector, sticker, or a lanyard.
Madrona Yearbook - 2024-2205 School Year
We are thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with Treering again this year to design our school yearbook. This will allow us to capture memories of our school year and each individual student's growth across the year.
Just like last year, one of the exciting features of our yearbook is that every student will be able to personalize 2 free pages with photos and selected memories they would like to capture in their book. This is not mandatory, but it is an option families can choose if they would like.
Here's how to order:
- On October 15th, create a free account. Here is the website: https://www.treering.com/validate
- Enter our school passcode: 101696453284409.
- Cost of our yearbook is $21.88 until May 2nd, 2025.
- If you would like to order a Custom page, order by May 2nd, 2025.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at recarter@seattleschools.org. We're looking forward to building a memorable yearbook with you this year!
Thank you,
Principal Carter
